I'll set the scene, I had rented a dolly to bring her home, and had to go to work with her in the dolly:

I noticed 3 guys standing and walking around, so he being super cautious walked over,(since it was attached to a dolly) and pretended to grab something out of my truck. Guy asked " man, wish I could afford these" other guy was like "hey buddy how much you pay?" I just said "enough" they were standing behind it now, and one guy said "poor Porsche, someones put Mazda emblems on it" I turned around and was like " or maybe it is a Mazda rx7?"

My favorite part. "no way it's a Mazda rx7, looks nothing like the one From fast and the furious"

I just shook my head and walked away

We have an underground garage at my apt building. 2 floors. unfortunately my car is too low to get up the ramp from the second floor to the gate. so i have to go all the way around through the entrance back up to the first floor to get out. car is pretty loud underground just at idle so i try to drive as slow as i can not disturb anyone. on my way up. i see an Asian lady taking her daughter to school. i tried to idle by and not disturb them but all i get is a nasty look from the mom and the little girl made this face. >_< while cover her ears. lol i wish i took a picture. it was priceless.

Everyone has fun with smog techs, but have you ever have one lean over the wrong side of the engine holding the leads in front of his face and say "hey, it sounds like you have some valve noise?"

The wrong side of the engine thing makes it funny this time, honest.

When I had a Stealth I told the desk guy at smog check "I'm gonna go out and scream "IT'S ALL WHEEL DRIVE" at the tech until he finishes." Dude almost fell out of his chair laughing.

On the subject of smoke, this happened maybe 4 years ago at the local 1/4 mile. I've lost track of the actual timeframe but it was a month or two after the GT40R and I was still working on the tune. Wanted to see how the car would do with a fairly rough tune.

So I made my run, full throttle through the first 4 gears and then let up at the end of the track. This caused a massive emission of huge clouds of while oil smoke. At the time I was still using the stock Mazda purge valve, which would often get confused at higher boost and end up allowing a good bit of oil into the intake manifold when the throttle snapped shut with a pressurized crankcase. Manifold vacuum would suck oil, and the car would release an impressive smoke screen. Fixed the issue shortly later with a catch can.

Anyway, I fogged the entire end of the track and apologized to the timing tower. They didn't seem to care. Drove back to my parking spot and as I was letting the car idle and cool a little a crowd came over to see my "blown" engine.

There were several people saying stuff like:

"Those rotarys always blow up"
"Yep another blown Mazda"
"Another rebuild eh"

I explained about the PCV problem and said I'd be fixing it soon and most people just wandered off once they found it was uninteresting to them. One person remained though because he was a Mazda expert, his brother having worked at a Mazda dealer sometime in the 70s. The conversation went a little like (I'm paraphrasing because this is from memory):

Him: "Everyone else is gone so you can cut the bullshit. Looks like you'll have to rebuild again!"
Me: "There's nothing wrong with the engine. As I explained, it's a slight issue with the PCV that I'll correct in the next few days"
Him: "No, it's blown up. That's how these engines fail"
Me: "Nope, not really. I'm going to make some more runs now"
Him: "You really are stupid running a blown engine"
Me: "It's not blown. It just ate a little oil when the intake manifold snapped back to vacuum"
Him: "It doesn't even idle. You have no idea what you're talking about"

(note that at this point, which often seems to happen in my conversations with hostile people about the car, the logical fallacy is now revealed: him saying that I don't know what I'm talking about, when we are standing beside a car that I alone built and tuned, and it's not exactly a bolt on TII swap!)

Me: "It's bridgeported, this is how it's supposed to idle. There's nothing wrong with the car"
(I grab the throttle cable and rev it up a few times, spooling the turbo)

Him: "You're just making **** up. Don't treat me like a moron. I saw hundreds of blown rotarys. Your car isn't idling"
Me: "If you'll excuse me I'm going to make another run now, everything's cooled down"

So I got in the car, made about another 6 runs that night and then drove home. Didn't see him again the entire evening nor during any subsequent trips to the track. Don't even know what he was driving.

Eventually I fixed the PCV by replacing the factory purge valve with a check valve and routing everythin through a catch can.

That is EPIC

Always great when other people try to teach you about your own stuff. There faces must have been priceless when you did the next few runs. "It doesn't even idle" lol he has maybe never seen a bridgeport so he might be slightly confused ^^

So, in my first week of having the rx7 tagged I have gotten these comments-

"Thems gurl cars!"
"Looks like a cap wedge" (small wooden wedge used in mining)
"Looks like a frog"
"Is that a Toyota?"
"Is that a Dodge Daytona?"

I've gotten positive comments as well, but the negitive ones are the funniest.

Was at Weksos Summer Rendezvous today and was having some fun shooting flames. Apparently someone asked if my car had a flamethrower kit.

My grandpa has owned a body shop for longer than I've been alive. He's been working on cars since he was a kid - though he hates cars, and doesn't like them and doesn't really know a whole lot about them. Anyways, a few days ago I was telling him about Rotaries and he's like "but it still has valves." And I think he said something about "it still has pistons" or something. I don't remember but it was pretty funny at the time.

Today I picked up a hitch hiker in my FB and at some point he asked me if it was a 300z lol. And I also go pulled over today (haven't registered the car, so no plates) and I handed the cop my moving permit and he's all, "84 mazda, huh? Don't see too many of these on the roads".

So, those are my stories from owning a running rotary for 4 days. xD

Ive heard a couple of the regulars like nice corvette, i bet it gets great gas mileage etc
But during the past month Ive heard some things that made me laugh stupid out loud.

I drove my GTUs to work one day as my truck was in the garage being worked on. And i pull into the lot and sit there while i put my boots on and finish the song on the radio. I get out and my boss almost breaks his neck while he leans out the door of the office and our conversation goes like this..

Boss, " Dude what the hell is that thing an Rx7?"

Me," Yeah it is! You actually know what it is? Im suprised (very suprised ha)

Boss," Of course I do, How does that thing still run?

Me," It acutally runs very well thank you very much. I take care of her like my baby.

Boss," Wow that wont last for long.. Well anyway, next time you drive your harley to work be sure to wear your helmet.

Me," uhhh suure..

I was kinda mad at first talking all the smack that he did. But then again he did say it sounded like a harley at idle. So i was confused and Decided to laugh about it. Later on we talked for about an hour about the rotary and i was pretty suprised about his knowledge

Second one happed about 2 days ago..

I was driving a friend of mine to get her something to eat and she wanted to take my car.( I never understand why, you cant let yourself think let alone have a conversation because the exahaust tone haha)
But she insisted so we did.
So we are pulling off the highway and we are about to hit the first traffic light and it turns from green to orange.
I downshift from 3rd to 2nd and go through the light successfully and then i shift violently from 2nd to 3rd which causes her to snap her head back and hit the headrest.
I turn and laugh because this isnt the first time ive done it and it certainly wont be the last.

She whips her head around to look at the dash as we are only 55ish. And she gives out a big laugh

I ask her what??
Her response is"I love your car! It sounds and feels like we are going really fast but i look down and we are going slow!"

That was kind of a low blow and it hurt me haha.

But i made up for it later..If you know what i mean ....I paid for dinner....

Anyways i know they arent the best but they both made me laugh at the time

Hahaha, BURN!

That's weird cuz it's always the opposite for me, if I'm on the highway alone and not looking at my speedo, I'll be thinkin I'm at 80-84, and look down and be over 100, and be like oh ****!!!!
