I find that living in the city, the noise doesnt permeate into the houses as much as living in the rural areas.
park my car in front of my house running at 2am walk in the house, can barely hear it even when its 15 feet away while in teh house, outside, you can barely hear it 30-40 feet away. Parked at my cousin house who lives in the rural areas and you can hear it idling brap brap brap 100 feet away outside.
Noise pollution in teh city pretty much drowns out my cars noise.

Old people will complain about noise. Its just facts. But she can make your life miserable if she keeps going at it. You can always get some kind of silencer and install it. Or you can just get a quieter exhaust.

Definitely. I'd like to work something out with her. As i've said, I've been nothing but respectful with her and I'm trying to avoid drama. I couldn't believe she'd go this far though. I avoid driving down her street as much as possible and I even turn my car off and coast home 2-3 blocks when its late.

Can you give me some info on what tuning needs to be done so I don't have to warm up the car? I would love that. Anytime she's cold she dies so easily...
What ECU?

Here's some basic tuning info:

How To Megasquirt Your 2nd Gen RX-7: Basic Tuning

While it is written specifically for the Megasquirt, the basics apply to any ECU. You just have to do the mental translation between different terms.

my neighbor keeps calling the cops on mine because in his eyes it is an eye sore. I have proven time and time again that I am allowed to have a 35 year old car but the state is fighting me on it now. Get your **** fixed before your state steps in, trust me I am paying for it now with my situation.

In case you didnt know, mine is considered an eye sore but a rusted out 73 camaro is not. With the current generation of old people cars like ours are frowned on but classic muscle cars are not. Wait till our generation is the old people generation then these cars will be collectable, just watch and see

Sounds like you've got a person with nothing better to do on their hands, get a check done to see how loud it actually is and verify that you are within the legal limits, otherwise you are screwed if she gets even more high and mighty. I think you are handling it well, just keep communication open and put in a pre-silencer or something.

For those of you who say not to let the car warm up for 5-10 minutes (which I do every single morning and let it warm up for a few mins after I haven't driven it for a few hours) what what about when it's -10 to -20 celcius out like it is here in Ontario. You're still going to tell me to start it and drive away once the oil pressure is up? When I do do that the car doesn't drop the revs mid-shift because its still frozen.

yes

the engine isn't frozen, it is working. a light load isn't going to hurt the engine, letting it sit and idle collecting carbon will.

I live in Ontario too.

-20 is nothing. Back when my RX-7s were my winter cars, there were plenty of mornings when I left for work and the thermometer outside my kitchen window was below -30. Scrape off car, start car, put on seatbelt, drive to work. Just don't beat up on the engine until it comes up to temperature.

You also don't have to wait until oil pressure "comes up" because that happens about 0.5 seconds after the engine is started. It only looks like it takes a while because the gauge is heavily damped.

Well thats actually a relief because ill save a ton of fuel not waiting 10 minutes to let it warm up every morning. And I know we get some -30 and even -40 with windchill mornings and my 7 will be going through it all. People in my program were shocked I was driving it through the winter.

Some folks will whine about Grandma's Homeade Cookies - sounds like neighbor lady is one of those.
take pot shots at her house at 2am with a BB gun, give her something to worry about Just kidding of course.
What is she doing wandering around the neighborhood at 9,10,11am? Does she not have a job or something to do? is she one of the 47% on welfare ?

Lol, if this happened to me I'd be awful tempted to type up my own letter and leave it in her mailbox... something like, "tired of stuck up bitches leaving trash in your mailbox?.."

I'm on an e6k. Thanks a lot Aaron, I started looking around and this seems to be a pretty common problem. I'm going to mess with my tuning later this week, (car is way too rich) and I'm gonna look at the coolant correction maps and try to make some adjustments.

haha, I had rotary friends and even my father say the same thing.. Sadly I cannot think of acting in such a way with an old lady. Although she's been giving me hell and calling the police reporting my car, I won't stoop down to that level. But indeed I thought about it!

Id be complaining on your as well. your digging your own hole as far as I'm concerned. No need to have it idling for 20 min's that's just a joke. start it and drive it... just don't thrash it. problem solvered.

^you sir need to re read this whole thread. I've stated numerous times that I don't let the car idle anywhere near that long. I can film a video showing you how it dies if you give it any gas when it's cold. I'm trying to address that this week with the tuning.

If that lady lived near me then she would have a heart attack. All the diesel trucks with stacks, newspaper man with no exhaust, and the leaf sucker upper machine man that thing is loud.

THIS is why I'm moving OUT of a deed restricted area & out to a rural part of town, will be on 1.1 acres.

I've had the police called for WRENCHING on the car, because the lady couldn't stand to "see all the parts everywhere" or "the loud machines being used" (cordless impact/air compressor).

People suck, that's all it boils down to. That's why I'll be far enough away that it won't matter.

But yea, keep on doing what you're doing, sounds like you're on the right path, just don't start a pissing match or anything. Everyone's going to take th eold lady's side, because she's an "elder" (eye roll), so you'll look & soudn more impressive if you put on a facad that you've got your stuff together. In the mean time, keep on driving the 7!

Which mufflers did you welded on? Round Borla/Magnaflows will be too loud. Borla oval XR1 series works, but they are expensive.

Seriously, go with a RB catback, and never look back

yes they do, but i'd say wrenching on a car for a day or 2 isn't need to get pissy over. i'd tell them to mind their business unless they like other people digging through their **** for things to complain about.

but this sounds like an everyday thing.

Maybe the solution is to have an officer come respond to a noise complaint and give a final decision. One of two things can happen.

A) Your exhaust is deemed too loud and you need to get fixed.

B) Your exhaust is legal and this lady is harassing you for no reason. You don't need to press charges, but it's no longer a matter of opinion. It's a legal fact.

In the end, you will still be neighbors and she'll probably still hate your car. But you don't have to worry about the cops any more.

On a side note, Do you have a pre-silencer? And what kind of mufflers are you using for the duals?

unless there is emissions in NM, that could open a whole new can of worms as the officer inspects the car idly "brapping" away with the bridge.

officer: "why is your car bouncing from side to side and sound like it has a heavy duty cam in it?"
OP: "don't know officer, it is completely stock"
officer: "can you pop your hood please"

Ditto! Landscapers are in residential areas working by 8am and those machines are loud and annoying as hell! I work on them everyday at my job, i understand these machines are at full throttle driving around lawns cutting them very early.
Just knowing this should comfort you enough to just let you keep doing what your doing. I do not see the problem. You say you start your car 930 am? Pft thats not early at all in my eyes. Tell them to shove it and do whatever it takes to prevent your car from being keyed.
I live in a tight area and cant believe i never got a complaint with my annoying very very loud n.a rex being started at 6:20 nearly every morning. You just got some shitty neighbors, happens alllll the time.
