Sneek Peek... Project GTU Squared (GTU2)
So I've been out of a car for a little while, and I was debating between 2 shells that are local to me. Well yesterday I bit the bullet and made a deal on a cherry T2 engine in Atlanta.. I have to go pick it up next weekend, but sent a deposit and am going to drop it in a clean 1991 GTU non-sunroof model with a blown motor. The car has 113k miles, and is in good shape, It is rust free, and wil recieve a nice thick layer of undercoating on the underbelly, fresh white paint on all the parts that see the sun, and under the hood. Wheels and tires are not decided yet, and suspension is also up in the air (probably RB springs and anti-sways).. Interior will be stock with an added backseat. Street use and Solo Autocross events.
So without further gabbing-
This
+ this
= Project GTU squared.

Yeah, I was days away from crossing my fingers again and ordering a j-spec, but after 3 j-specs ordered in the past and 2 of them being blown... I was glad to find a good US-spec engine for a reasonable price.

So I went and looked over the Coupe today, helped load it on the trailer and should take delivery this week. After looking it over I have decided to go a little more indepth then I originally expected. I am going to pull the engine out and part out the block, rotors, accesories, ecu, exhaust (cats). I am then going to strip the engine bay down and paint it gloss black, at the same time I will shoot the front crossmember and all the suspension parts black. I will then install the S5 T2 engine (after removing emissions and painting the manifolds gunmetal)
I am still going to undercoat the underbelly, and the car needs a little bit of bodywork to prepare it for paint. It is going back to white, but it should be of higher quality then the flaky oem paint.
I have decided on wheels.. 17x9 fronts 17x10.5 rears.. FR500 wheels from AmericanMuscle... +28mm rear offset and 24mm fronts.
So I got my DP and presilencer and I sanded them and started high temp painting them and will probably wrap them..
I need to remove the tint because it is awful, and re-apply.... AHHH feels good to be back working on an Rx-7...

I have realized that I cannot do the FD until I finish College.. That will be my graduation present to myself...lol
I am going to build this to be a perminent addition to the driveway, but I have had issues in the past with my builds where I have had offers I couldn't refuse..... This will be by far my best build. I anticipate having $4000-$7000 in the car by the time all is said and done. Depending on how much I modify the fuel/turbo.

thats interesting, i end up building my cars the same way. i build them, then they sit in the garage and get driven very little, and then someone makes an offer i cant refuse.
and the cycle continues....im collecting parts for my FC now, while it sits in the garage.
im looking forward to following this project of yours.
