Serious question...
Okay I've owned my vert for a while now and I completely love it! It's fun as hell to drive, kinda slow, but I love it. Thing is that I'm always paranoid on getting the top knifed and getting mah stuff stolen.
I planned on buying coilovers, turbo swapping and modding the block etc. But I've been thinking...I'm about to graduate high school, I'm going over to university in a few months and I'm thinking about the future of me and my beloved rx7. I'll be putting a lot of money into it (I mean a lot!! I'm sure you guys know how it goes lol.) I'm doubting it would be a good investment to put my money into at my current position. I've been saving and already have $$$ but now I don't think I should throw it all into my car, but rather into school or something.
I'm thinking of selling my car for now, and when I get out of school, or at least in a financially better position, I should begin to invest money into a car. I was thinking I could just buy a Impreza or something for a DD instead. It's my second favorite car and stock bodied WRX's aren't so expensive anymore. I would hate to sell my RX, but also it could be a move for the better...at least for now. I think I made my decision already :/ but I need more assurance
thanks and sorry for the rant !
Clifs:
-Going to college
-Thinking it'd be better to sell my rx7 instead of invest $$$$ and get a real DD (one with luxury commodities and room)
- Need help with deciding!!

Im sorta in your position with graduating soon, but instead of having dumped money into the 7. I sold my wheels and "downgraded" to some meshies and put that extra cash away. Well that and I'm keeping the fc not selling it. Need to take care of priorities first. If your going to be driving alot, just get a crx and enjoy 35ish mpg haha.

1991-1994 Nissan Sentra 5-sp, E trim. Ridiculously good mileage, cheaper to buy and insure than Hondas/Toyotas but just as reliable.
Pick up one of those for $500-1000, keep your Vert.
If you're still thinking the Impreza is a good idea.. Calculate exactly how much you'll save through college on gas, how much more you'll spend on insurance, and how much the Impreza would depreciate by the time you would buy another 7.. [I don't imagine it would be pretty for the Impreza with those calculations..]
Also, if you get married in the interm, I imagine it would be harder to convince a wife that you two need to buy a sports car when you already have a "Car that has enough seats for kids."

Nate said it! If you get rid of it b/c "you need to put money away ect" than you need to buy a honda. Period. Reliable, junk yards have tons of them, All you need is gas oil and coolent for 100k miles.
PS. i havent owned one under 250K. My DD is a EF, it has 415K. Hits the revlimeter more than a dozen times a day. ill drive it all around the world and hold my foot to the floor from every stop light/sign guarentee it wont skip a beat.

I agree with the CRX idea. I actually got my 86 CRX si for 800 bucks as my first car earlier in highschool. Left me with some extra cash that I saved and worked a bit more to get the Rx7.
I'm in the same position as you with the college stuff. Although, neither the RX7 or crx has this thing called "luxury/commodities" .
BTW my 86 CRX si with 160k miles get around 42mpg highway. That's with coasting downhill though, but that makes up for extra gas spent going uphill, so yeah CRX's are pretty fun and fuel efficient.

It's just as well suited as the CRX [about the same fuel economy], but because it's a Nissan instead of a Honda people forget about it [and it remains blissfully cheaper/less likely to be stolen]

Lol, finally someone with my mentality. I dropped 1,300 on my coilovers knowing I would have less than $10 for two weeks. I survived and managed to get by, and don't regret one second of it.

Hah as much as Iwould love to throw all my money into it, I also want to go out with friends and be able to pay the monthly insurance payments lol
I'm pretty sure I'm gonna sell it and sometime in the near future and worry about a project after school. And as lame as they are, a civic that gets 38mpg's is looking very tasty right now with these gas prices!
But I love this car! I dont wanna sell it its just a car...its just a car

I think it all depends on how much you could sell your fc for and if you have a place to park it when your not driving it.
If you can only get 1000-2000 bucks for your vert, then I would say keep it and buy another car for a DD. In the long run, 2000 dollars is not that much money. I know that even though I am a poor college student, I would not sell my fc for 2000 dollars (my fc is not worth that much...) because it is one of the things that help me get through 5 hours of class a day. Even when your poor you need toys.
And my DD is a 98 nissan sentra gxe, I would rather have the earlier generation but it gets 35 mpg and is fairly reliable.

The moral of the story is bro, you already have a seven, which is inefficient, loud, smelly, kinda funny looking to a lot of people and costs more to maintain then the space shuttle columbia, thus showing rx7 owners aren't the sharpest tools in the shed.
So make the right choice and waste 95% of your money on the vert and ask your friends if they're cool with going to del taco for taco tuesdays while you're in school

oh god i love del taco
But i found out i got another tasty scholarship from bright futures so perhaps I'll keep this muthafooka and build her right! I'm probably just going to take it slow though and budget my money. Being broke while in college doesn't seem like a good idea. I wont be off to college until August, so I'll have plenty of months to throw my money into my car

Im a full time college student myself. i still build the faack out of my car. Its kinda like when you first knock a girl up and you freak out and sell all your toys...then realize hell this is easy, dammit why did i get rid of all that for know reason...(so ive been told)

Also student here, full time. Been laid off for a couple months. Make my money by buying and selling ****, and I make more doing that then working. I have two cars that I stick all kinds of cash into too lol.
You just need to find a way to make the cash come to you and be able to manage it...
