Save my vert from "Darkside Dorifto Fate!!"
Local shop might be interested in a vert of mine. They want to turn it into a V8 swapped drift project!!!
I have my first rebuild to finish up. Looks like I"m leaning heavily towards putting the turbo swap into the black vert. I'm not keeping a 2nd vert, so the N/A setup will need to go. N/A is high miles and compression is getting low..IIRC 80ish. Maybe 85psi. I'll probably part out the N/A engine.
It'd be a shame to drift the car cause it's southern and has zero rust. Seems like a waste of a good car. But they are local and hell, they'd probably let me drive the v8 swap a lil.
Black vert and middle red vert are my father's. Unless I have a change of heart I'm putting the turbo rebuild into the black vert and selling the red vert in the background. Background is my vert with a turbo swap...before i made it go boom.
The one that must go is the background red vert

In a perfect world I'd buy the black vert AND keep my red vert as an N/A.
One thing to keep in mind though is that pic is old. My vert has been parked with no engine for a long time. The top is like paper and is done. The paint definitely needs some work with an electric buffer. But it really needs new paint. BUT other than some dings and door scars the panels are straight and not a spot of rust anywhere. It's a cali and southern car. It was bought new in southern Cali. I bought it from the..um...3rd owner in Atlanta. So it's only seen the winters I've driven it in. It's defnitely a project car...but a great starting point for someone.
The engine in the black vert is tired and I'd get more out of it parting it. If I can part the N/A engine, part the red vert down to it's shell...AND get to see my car transformed...AND AND even better get to drive it after being transformed. That's not a bad deal at all. The shop owner is a friend, he'd be good with letting me get involved with the swap and taking it to the track. Hell that's an AND AND AND for getting to learn first hand about V8 swaps.
But before it goes to that gay drift stuff (couldn't resist)I'll post the car up on the forums. I'd prefer it stay rotary.

V8 FTL!
Why not swap the tired engine into the red one, turbo into the black and keep em both Rotary? [and maybe freshen up the NA, clean the red one and mark it up when you sell?]
Oh, and you could also mention my signature to them

The vert won't get parted out and junked. I'm not sure the shop intentions yet, but I believe they want a bare shell to throw a V8 in and trash drifting. Theorectically I could part all the good stuff and make a little cash with that. Then sell them the shell.
His first new car was a 68 Firebird w/350 and my first car I bought for myself (not a family hand me down) was a 67 Firebird w/326. It wasn't planned that way though. I was simply shopping for a muscle car and the Firebird was in better shape than the 66 Mustang convertible.
1st problem is that I'm currently underemployed and all this costs money.
2nd problem is that there isn't alot of money in stock N/A engines. I don't know much about porting or what supporting mods you need for porting an N/A. I'd think most of the buyers on these forums would rather have the tired engine so they could rebuild it than have a bone stock new engine. Which brings us back to it being financially better for me to tear the engine down and sell it in pieces.
BUT my finances and underemployed status begs to differ that yes you can in fact have tooooo many toys

your trying to sell it? well then if you dont want it to go to them, just bs with them "hey i got another guy who offered to pay more for its condition".. then they should fade away, if they ever pop back up just say "oh yeah, that guy flaked but i got another guy coming down out of state to check it out".
I have no problem with drift cars but yeah yours is wayy too clean imo. Or just tell them straight "I kind of want it to go to someone who will appreciate it in its condition"
v8 sounds like some redneck drifters "yeah we wanna throw a chevy small block on that thing screw that jap rotary" lol

^ It's a long shot that I'd keep both verts. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to part out or try to sell as a whole. BUT in some form or another stuff is going to leave my possession.
I talked to the shop today and they'd only want a bareshell. So I've got a lot to decide in a short amount of time. The thread title is more for fun than how I actually feel. I've never been to a track to see drifting, never drifted, etc. Maybe I go to an event or even drive on a track and enjoy it?? Who knows??
I'm not an all out rotary purest. Swapping motors is part of the whole performance culture. BUT I can see why people are opposed to taking away from what makes an RX..well a rotary.
They're not redneck, it's almost all jland enthusiasts at their shop. One of the owners lived in Japan up until recently. The same guy has a very nice Infiniti coupe. The one that shares the same platform as the Zcars. He's got it twin turbo'd, maybe a full engine swap. IIRC it puts out 400-500hp.

hrm...... don't exactly know what to think here
on one hand v8 swaps are awesome(don't hate it if you have never tried it)
and on the other hand drifting is gay in all forms so......
it is pretty much a wash
i would say do everything you can to keep the car.... when it comes to FC's every time you get rid of one you wish later that you had not.
and for those wondering why the darkside is so popular its because it is awesome
400+ HP easy with no finicky turbo to worry about and the power is always there and with an aluminum block engine the weight ends up being nearly the same...... there really is just very few down sides to it....................IMO of course hahahaha

Didn't sleepy eyes get started from some ghey *** ballet dancer who thought he could drive as pretty as he danced. He found that going sideways in your car was not the best way to get air into the engine compartment, but when he raised his headlights it allowed more air in. Then Santa Claus found out and figured since Elves are so close to being ghey that he should support the Ghey and Elf Associaiton. So he started giving out sleepy eye kits at Xmas time. Well this did not sit well with the Easter Bunny. The Easter Bunny is already low on self-esteem from being a cute little fluffy thing he couldn't stomach the idea of Santa cornering the Ghey Elf Drift Alliance. So the Easter Bunny started leaving Easter Eggs with sleepy eyes. So then the Tooth Fairy was out to lunch with the Easter Bunny and they got to talking about sleepy eyes. The Tooth Fairy said, "Damn that looks ugly as **** man" but then paused and after some consideration said "But you know, kids missing teeth is pretty ugly too, so maybe if I gave the kids something more ugly than a missing tooth then the missing tooth won't look so bad in comparison?" So the Tooth Fairy started leaving sleepy eyes under the sleepy eyed kids pillows. And thus little children grew up thinking if they got them for free then they must be cool...and thus sleepy eyes were born!!
True story
Seriously tho..I think sleepy eyes did come out of drifting. A driver modded his headlights to get more air thru the intake cause he wasn't driving forward. Oh and don't put too much to my creative writing above. Sleepy eyes are not my thing, but i'm not into telling people what they should or shouldn't do with their property
I'm more looking out for my own best interests. It'd be beneficial to keep a vert as a daily driver and parts car for when things break. If I sell how do I come out in the best shape? By parting? By selling as a whole?
Thanks, lots of maintenance has gone into them. I need to wash, buff and wax the one that is potentially gonna be for sale. It's been sitting for over a year now..in the sun and weather....Gotta get an idea of what it's worth.

That is a super clean S5 man. I wouldnt let them swap it. Now I know, I know I have a LS1 one my FC but they will rip that FC apart to make the V8 work.
If the shell was in shitty condition then yeah I would say sell it. It is just in too good of shape to make it a bastard child
BTW; I AGREE with Daeldalus

Some of the added perks to parting down to a v8 drifter is that I could keep all the choice parts for future repairs. The vert taillights, fog lights, window switches, etc. I could learn about V8 swaps first hand. That and I"m trying to convince the shop owner to teach me to paint. Selling him the vert shell for cheap would be great motivation.
In the next week or two I'll spend time buffing the vert and waxing it. If I can clean up a year worth of grime off the car and make it pretty again then I'll think more about selling it as a whole. I gotta figure a southern vert with no rust and a RB exhaust would move pretty quickly.

if your a fan of any motorsport, you will understand the characteristics of drifting.. especially in rally racing where it is common. Even in F1 , an oversteer moment can lead to correction into a drift though tons of speed is lost *Schumacher at Singapore last year*.
Here is a v8 drift vert, it is pretty cool though
http://zilvia.net/f/cars-sale/376602...rt-rx-7-a.html
I sold a Origin bodykit for FC a few years ago and when the guy picked it up, when he was putting it in his van he said he was gonna copy it and produce em... I didnt want that but i couldnt take it back in the deal . I never knew what he did with it, if he had built a car up with it, it would no doubt be on the net.

This
A side note, I have nothing against drifting... Except when the drifter sucks and their lack of skill trashes the car [as so many seem to do..] :/
