Modernizing some S4 Tails
#151
Im a NC state inspector, over here, reverse lights are not required at all to pass inspection. I do like to indicate to others (in a parking lot or whatever), when my car is in reverse though, so I definitely would try to set some up if it was me. Maybe you can get a small LED or even regular white bulb and close off a little corner of your light to mount the reverse bulbs in. I think they'd look pretty sweet in the lower inside corner of each light, and they'd probably be inconspicious. idk.

I was just going through old threads and came across this one. Have an old set of S4 tails lying around and thought of doing something to them. I like the all red look, but was wondering where the reverse lights should go?
I was thinking about running LED's through the red bars but have to figure out a way for the lights not to bleed into one another. What do you guys think about the placement of reverse lights?

I made a small adjustment by flipping the bottom portions of the lights. . . As far as the reverse light placement, I'll post a visual rendition of what I would do soon.

VLEDS has a SIIIIIIIICK license plate frame that has a couple LEDs on it so when you flip on your reverse lights it basically put a spotlight back there. I really want to ephasize they are SICK.

Semi-gloss black - if rattle canning it, highly recommend Rustoleum semi gloss black - White can w/ a pic of patio furniture on it. Love that stuff - long drying time however.
Great coverage, and two coats is all you really need.
It's also the color my car will eventually be.
TFitz.

Gloss paint (in rattlecan) has a habit of separation and build-up, when done in multiple layers.

Is there anyone out there besides me that is NOT a fan of this whole LED thing? They look like a string of christmas lights, IMO. I like the idea there, but not the execution. Anyway to diffuse the light so that the individual bulbs aren't so blatantly expressed?

You are looking for elef LEDs like robxx7 has. https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-non-technical-pictures-198/lighting-upgrade-has-begun-5w-elef-led-959833/

as i was making them i kinda feared the leds being to bright, and they do look like there too much id love to remake the brake protion of the lense tho, i do feel like it has the christmas light effect.

+1 diffused looks so much better. If you must go un-diffussed (modern look), keep it to circles. The christmas strings make it look like a ******* gay dodge.

Don't use strips. Instead build boards the full size of the light and sit it as far back from the lens as possible. You should be using upwards of 150 LEDs per light to get a clean look and usable reliable light.
