Hey RRTEC,

Just checking in, looking for updates.
Your project will be interesting to watch. I can see rather challenging obstacles that I will be curious to see how you overcome them - ex: attaching the lexan cover to the light housing.
This thread could be a good learning experience.

I so have that Initial D FC. It's sitting right under my monitor so I never forget why I'm on the internet.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this turns out because I can get free s4 tails all day.

its a great idea and i hope it turns out great.

i was going to mess with my s4's i wanted to do the led strips in them, to give it the same look the g35 has....which would also look good on the s5 tails (though i think thats been done)

and by the way...you guys do no why that models lights are like that right?.....its called laziness, and being cheap.....that model was supposed to be an s5...like in the show.....some how they ended up with s4's so they just kept them the whole color thinking nobody would care....

hell that companies so lazy if you look in the engine bay....despite the fact that the entire thing is chrome....if you look close theres a small block in there

The underside of the black light housing has a very deep (1/4 inch) lip that is also 1/4 inch wide so the lexan will be butted up and adhered to the underside of the light. I will smooth the edges where the cross hair is removed (which is very thin BTW) and then re-paint the housing black. I am debating on if I should paint it gloss black or matte black though...

I am probably not going to get much done until the weekend as work is kicking my ***, but should show some major improvement by then.

Semi-gloss black - if rattle canning it, highly recommend Rustoleum semi gloss black - White can w/ a pic of patio furniture on it. Love that stuff - long drying time however.
Great coverage, and two coats is all you really need.
It's also the color my car will eventually be.

Hey, I was thinking about modifying my s5 tails and getting rid of the fugly white reverse lights. I liked the LED idea because you could probably hide and led behind a small smoked piece..

Here's my thought: use the a mag-light LED kit. I really doubt anyone would miss you and visibility would be great, haha. May be too bright though idk

So far I have about 30 minutes invested on this one side. I would wager that it will take about 1 hr. per side to complete the modification.

This is just my .02 but I think they would look more modern if red lenses are located a bit more above. If you look at S5 tail, black housing at the top is narrower than that of S4's.

Of course there are 1000 other ways to do it, but you need to remember, I am not trying to build S5 lights, I am trying to use the parts that are already available, and modify them slightly to look more modern... Besides building a totally new housing how would you recommend I make the red "go up further"? Especially seeing as how the light's mounting points are pretty close to the lenses.

I hope that you understand what I am trying to do here, and I encourage you to take a whack at modifying them yourself.. The more options that become available the richer the community will be. I have already posted my outline of the modification, but feel free to post your idea and "HOW" to accomplish it in this thread if you wish. I stress HOW because it is easy to say how things should be.. But it's much harder to actually make it happen.
