Insuring multiple RX-7s: hoarders chime in!
#27
Been doing some calling around:
My 6 month premium for an '83 GS, '88 4 lug, & '89 vert is
$1243. This is with State Farm, an under-25 rate increase, & a good student discount. My rate goes up when I turn 25 (nov 24) from loosing the student discount, but drops from the hitting of age 25, so essentially, my rate stays the same. Here's where things got funny: Because of my commute distance, my premium went UP $56. more. So, I'm almost to $1300/6Mo for 3 cars!!!
I did a quote thru progressive, and added a 4th car (1991 "a" package FC), and my 6 mo is: $868... so... it's pretty much clear as day what route I'm going to take.
I'm making an assumption here, in saying, that I predict with:
-getting married
-moving to a less populated county
-purchasing a newer (rx-8, or '96 gmc sierra) vehicle for a daily & putting the rest as classics thru grundy/haggerty/etc
-cars turning to classics when they reach 30 years of age
will drop my rates much more substantially. But for now, I'm happy to insure another car AND save ~$400 a twice a year. Hell, might as well buy 2 more rx-7s now, right?
Anyway that's hwere I'm at!

I "lost" my emissions....
Check with Allstate, you may find them to be quite a lot cheaper, I know my 88 gxl and 91 miata run me about 350 per 6 months with full coverage and a slew of upgrades.
Also the dealer thing... don't bother, I am a car dealer, been in the business for 2 years. Its a pain in the ***. frequent dmv inspections, super tight regulations. You have to have reasonable hours that you are open and if your not there you are cited. I'm sure Florida's different, but by how much? after all the inspections and insurance and everything it took 8 months and cost about 25k just to open the door, not counting the property.
That's the other thing, you need a free standing dedicated building that's commercial zoned. and you cannot use the plates for personal use. if you do and your caught you are cited and could lose your dealers license.
Contact your insurance company, I found that agreed value doesn't mean anything. they will still pay out book value unless you provided receipts or photos proving your agreed value is justified. I fell into that trap before. take pictures provide values. and labor doesn't count.

I have jumped through the insurance hoops many times over the past 10 years. Shopping around, switching companies and such. Gieco, Progressive, esurance, Travelers, ect... I tried them all it seems like and didn't try many who had ubsurd rates. For the last 4 years I have been with Allstate and never been happier. No one can come close to their rates. When it comes to service the difference is even more drastic. Allstate hands down makes every other company I have dealt with seem like it is run by a bunch of retarded infant apes.
When looking at Haggerty for rates on one of my non-RX7's it wasen't even close. Haggerty wanted 4x as much for a policy that limited me to 2000 miles a year, only traveling to and from "shows" and all this other crap. On allstate the car was covered fully and has zero restirctions on use... zero, I could daily it and it wouldn't matter. $3000 a year through Haggerty and like $800 a year through Allstate. Haggerty is a f'ing joke.
