nice job on that 240 man. Il post up pics after I get the money for the stud weld dent puller.

I went to Les Shwab and supervised them while they looked at my car. They said i have a blown bearing up front (non related to the accident). The tech that was looking at the back was getting mad because nothing was obviously bent or broken. He did notice that the wheel had way too much toe in and said the wheel hub is made out of aluminum and is probably bent. He said I should get a new rear tracker arm, control arm and wheel hub assembly.

JTO 09-21-08 12:22 PM

wow i really figured more would be bent but on the up side i stil haave the parts to fix it

JordanRykon 09-22-08 09:08 PM

you and I should meet up sometime man I literally wouldve had your car if you hadnt decided to keep it lol ive got an 89 GTU (black of course) and it too is gonna be an NA beast, ive got a large SP but no exhaust to compliment it and an automatic transmission that makes me wanna quit life everytime i drive it, im gonna swap a 5 speed in there one of these days tho with the help of another forum member

word. You should show up to the Evergreen or Bremerton for their drifting events this upcoming season.

I have made alot of progress on my car. I dropped the whole subframe out (including the A arms, hub and lateral link) and replaced it with a reinforced subframe I got off a forum member (ZeroDrift)

https://www.rx7club.com/nw-sale-wanted-classifieds-209/fs-strengthened-fc-sub-frame-s5-turbo-tii-tranny-4pot-calipers-cheap-800158/

The thread for where the A-arm connects to my coilovers was different then the bolt that went into my original A arm (M12 1.50 instead of 1.25) so I went out and bought some bolts. The swap was easy, but time consuming and some parts pissed me off. I broke two socket extensions trying to loosen the bolts that connect the subframe to the diff. I drove the car afterwords and it feels like everything is back to normal. I do hear a clicking sound whenever I go over bumps so il recheck everything and tighten everything down.

I also found a tii in a local pull apart scrap yard and took the hood home for $25. Its arctic silver and looks good on my black GTU (Aluminum hoods are so much lighter then steel :) ) It was missing the scoop trim but SAMIboarder gave me a cracked one for free that I fixed up.

I no longer have insurance so I have to take care of that before I get it back on the road but driving it definitely got me motivated. Il take pics next time I go home.

Good tips thanks man. I usually drive that road late nights (around 2am). I have the road memorized. I messed up because

- Dont usually drive during the day
- tired, just woke up
- Overestimated my car's abilities because of my coilovers (DTSS sucks, stock wheels and tiers)

I already miss my car...I will get her back on the road again. I have learned my lesson.

yo,

I learned my less 2 years ago. I went to the local canyon road trying to keep up with my friend who was a experienced driver in his E30. On a tight turn entering at 80 downshifted 4,3,2 then all my wheels locked up and went straight into a guard rail. Itwas all quarterpanel and door damage. That time I wasnt smooth at revmatching , I would just literally downshift and brake. After that I learned to run pase with myself, and let speed naturaluy build. The other times I spun out too, but only ripped off my rear bmagic ait aero same problem, went from 3 to second but not smoothly and it shift locked on some loose gravel & lost control into a dirt mound all in the same canyon lol. Then after you learnn how to do body work . Luckily none of my suspension was damaged, nor wheels. Oh yeah it was all on the damn stock telephone 4 lug wheels lol but after that those wheels taught me not to be so rough driving, especialy driving in the rain with those lil wheels and t2, and when I finaly got wider wheels[sportwax], my car felt like it turned into a handling dream..since then touge grip got boring , and my friends taught me how to drift , and its been almost 1 year and half of drift, and its hella addicting , way more fun than grip.

yeah I hated taking my diff out too, I broke my husky ratchet lol, now it always skips gears . the two bolts hidden deep in there is apain..

what size are your tiers/wheels? (17's or 18's, what width and what tire size are you running? are you stretching tire or no?)

I plan on doing the following before next year:

Completely fixing my car
DTSS eliminator Bushings
Strut bars
Prosport temp gauge
headers

Next years plans:

Wheels
Aero
Seat time

Dude what happened to the TII swap bro? :dunno:

0verb00st 11-20-08 01:11 AM

I crashed my car and it forced me to prioritize. I need to get better before I get the added power. I dont think im a good enough driver to harness the extra power yet. I will get the swap once I feel like my driving ability surpassed the capabilities of my car.

Mad_kidd 12-09-08 09:46 AM

I dont know if you mention it yet, but what muffler is that? cost? inlet and outlet size? how does it sounds?

thank you

NoPistons! 12-09-08 11:42 AM

Just popping in to check this out.

Your dtss snap oversteer story is forcing me to definately nip those in the butt before i put my car out on the road....

The horror.

My quarter and door were already hosed like that when i got my car....not quite that bad but body work sucks.

FTR, a chassis swap would be harder than pulling that shit out. Seriously. I thought about it and swiftly declined after i saw how many grueling man hours i'd have to put in. If i had a shop and more friends willing to help, i would have done it but i like my sunroof and the damage was easily fixable with a parts car.

My advice to you, if you cant fix that quarter with pulling and glass, cut one out of a parts car, hack yours out and bust out the mig/tig.

xFCdrift3Sx 12-09-08 04:25 PM

haha i have cut springs until i get coilovers, im glad im not the only one lol

0verb00st 12-09-08 10:09 PM

heres a vid of my exhaust. I got it from a friend and dont know anything about it. I like how its sounds. (Dont mind the music text or smoke haha)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4c-q2DJn_M

DTSS eliminators FTW (stock tiers and wheels dont help keeping traction either, cant wait for my 17X9s)

coilovers ftw.

I will probably cover up the damage with overfenders down the road and bash out the rest the best I can.

Mad_kidd 12-10-08 07:49 AM

Yea, that sounds nice, that the tone I'm shooting for

Went to court and couldn't get the ticket deferred. The judge said he doesn't differ anything over minor traffic violations especially when it involves an accident. I'm broke, don't have a job and still need insurance and renewed tabs. Damn I miss driving my car.

K!NCH 01-05-09 07:05 PM

That's rough dude, exhaust sounds mean. What size is it?

0verb00st 07-27-09 01:44 PM

Its either more camber more caster or more camber less caster. theres no way to adjust camber without caster on these plates.

sharingan 19 07-27-09 04:03 PM

....interesting...

How are they workin out for you so far?

Hypertek 07-27-09 04:09 PM

good job i spoke with someone who does thier plates like that and it helped alot with thier drifting, i think he said he got better response with it
http://i31.tinypic.com/k3kk8m.jpg

K!NCH 07-27-09 04:27 PM

Does it really make that big of a difference? And can you just rotate the tops? Obviously have to take them out to do so. But I noticed heypertek's strut bar is drilled.

Hypertek 07-27-09 04:30 PM

this was the black s4 from pbm
http://www.gtfactory.jp/cms/e107_plu...opic.php?233.0

sharingan 19 07-27-09 10:42 PM

That car is badass! I'm still interested to know WHY that setup makes the car more responsive for drifting, and whether those benifits are exclusive to drifting?

0verb00st 07-28-09 01:10 AM

They are legit. caster gives you more camber as you turn the wheel. the more caster you have, the less camber you need for the same amount of cornering grip.
the downside to too much caster, is that it increases steering effort.

K!NCH 07-28-09 07:43 PM

So just rotating the tops won't give too much caster?

Dude I have been trying to ignore your posts that blame the car... but seriously, you were behind the wheel. Take responsibility... Its not the bushings, it is an inexperienced driver that OVERestimated HIS abilities to drive his car. I have driven cars that have had SERIOUS failures on the road without crashing or spinning.. (driveshaft broke and launched the car in the air, Rear subframe mount snapped on another car, Clutch disk seperated and shot through belllhousing, Rear wheel shattered at 80mph, the list goes on.........) I never once blamed my car, but I guess they never resulted in a crash like yours did... You need to hit up the autocross course.

My 02... Pull the engine, coilovers, any other good parts (body included) and look for a shell...

The car is not worth fixing..

I have both my camber and caster almost maxed out and I like it. Its all personal preference though.

I know I fucked up...i fixed my car and it drives like new. Why waste money on a new shell?

Some encouragement lol my car is an S5 n/a all stock pretty much

I have a ton of good roads to drive out here in ontario

theres one that is called snake rd 240 guys always challenge me with there Sr20'd and coilover'd cars the last 2 guys hit guard rails trying to keep up with me on all seasons...

I really really don't think it was the Dtss that screwed you up in all honesty it was Lack of experience no offense ment

But i can drive my car right on the edge and drift with it being 100% stock and it never has snapped out on me where i was trying not to

I had similar tires on my FC, I spun out in the rain. These cars do not grip well in the rain bro, if you were driving normal you wouldn't of crashed. I know from first hand, not trying to attack you. You don't need to be like "oh i was wreckless blabla" just take note in your head you fucked up, do we care that you wernt drifting, what about a spirit drive? When I leave my house I almost always went on a spiritual drive, I knew my FB's limits in the rain (I had nearly slicks, so I kept it calm above 25mph) never an issue. The fc I went to swerve from somthing, was first rain and uber slippery, I should of been more cautious I've been on that road for the past 6 years, I should of taken it easier considering that the fc lets loose in the rain, my dad crashed the car when my grandma first bought it in 1991, or the christmas after. He went to move it and it hit this weird gear (automatic) and just started going, then spun when it reved more.... anyways.

Keep up man, for me I have to move and such so I sold stuff and made cash I could to get a car, now fixing it and doing even more $$$ jobs cause I am mobile, soon I can move to where my business is located (Have a partner) then Ill hopefully have income for more.

I still need insurance, I feel your pain :(

RRTEC is pretty ball on, I didn't read the whole thread but I used to deny (to myself) that it was mother natures fault, another member got blown on a highway overpass/bridge like thing in the rain.... coulda been the suspension he had adjusted neg camber.

Did you have neg camber? With an independent suspension the geometry of the suspension (esp with dtss) will change quite dynamically and by changing tire size, suspension parts (ride heights, etc) wheels, camber, anti sway bars, you change your car. With DTSS I'm sure this can change even more differently which may be better to eliminate it, if anyone knows I'd like to hear if this is true. :) I've come to like solid rear ends, my FB mmm... and now got a modifed turbo volvo... had no issues in the rain or turns with either mentioned.

Coilovers VS Engine swap
A forum member here Mazpower always tells me never to go turbo, now that I got a turbo volvo which honestly feels like a mix between my FB (axle rear end, however open diff so it's alike my 91 rx7 with that) and my brothers BMW (The feel of the car, he had a 7 series with gigantically wide stock wheels (7 or 8") and it'd keep up with my prior rex's in the twisties. the last car. I've been learning about volvo's and well buttdyno and what others say, it should be around 200~ rwhp. Civics and such would toy with me in my 91 and 85 rex's, some not. In this volvo boosting by them I've never beenable to catch them on, they normally act like a dog with tail between legs.... and all my friend's comments, the cars fucking fast, even more so for a sedan - most of my friends rode with me in the twisties in both of my rx7's going extremely fast, they know I'm good, so in the volvo just as they expected, I've not beenable to go quite as fast on the twisties, why? One reason is the bald tires (right rear is god awful), the suspension seems to of been upgraded alittle but needs anti sway bars or stronger ones, the chassis has little flex and it's balanced between under and oversteer.

If I was you, with what I can understand from this thread (read alil more and edited this) I'd go with normal suspension upgrades and just generally nicely upgraded the suspension, all bushings and such and bring it back to off the factory, but improved. Then adjust it to your liking, you gotta think do you need more power or do you want coilovers to play with?
