Cooling system advice for a long term stored FC
Hey all,
Started looking at my poor FC today after it has been sitting for about 3 years. Its a 1987 Japan import 13b turbo.
I have some questions regarding the cooling system. I will be following this excellent guide from AaroncCake https://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/unstore.htm and taking every precaution.
Unfortunately as the car was sitting all the coolant had leaked out . I took of the water pump and the housing and its looking pretty horrid inside.
I'll be replacing the water pump/thermostat and will polish the inside of the housings but my question is, whats the best way to go about flushing it internally and getting it safe to run with? Or am I over thinking this and with replacing the pump/themo and a little clean it should be ok?
Only guides I can find are for running engines. Have heard that just plugging a hose in can dislodge and jam particles.

Is the engine together? With no thermostat installed you can clean out most of the motor and radiator with a garden hose via a traditional "flush". Have you serviced the coolant before the 3 years it sat? While 3 years is not great, the inside of the motor shouldn't be too terrible.
If it were me I would clean it out as best I could, then once the car is running leave some Prestone radiator flush or cascade dish detergent in for a few days, then flush/fill several times with distilled water and finally your choice of coolant.
