C339: Should the eccentric shaft number match?

Okay, so I have C339. This is good. However, the shaft (both pieces), the front counterweight and rear counterweight are stamped "20" and not C339. I have heard the eccentric shaft number should match the C339 engine number. Can anyone who really knows confirm this for me?

Eccentric shaft: matching numbers?

Okay, so here's my dilemna: Attached is a pic of my rotor housing, engine number C339. But my eccentric shaft is marked "20" and not "C339" like I've been told it should. So what gives?

Anyone know for sure if the shaft should match? Anyone have any pics with a number from your e shaft? Your help is greatly appreciated!

WE have ALL said that your motor obviously does not have the original e-shaft it left the Mazda factory with... Not sure where you are going with this?? If the number on your E-shaft does not match the number stamped on the rest of your engine parts, its not the original e-shaft...

David.
Like we discussed before both of the motors I have opened presently do match numbers. One being a 'B' code and the other a 'C' code.
Supposedly the early shafts they were breakage prone were the ones that had a squared of section on the taper although I have not seen one of those personally. Going by your pics I see notting that is obviously different to the shafts I have.
Yours might just be a factory replacemnt shaft bought over the counter.
Does anyone have pics of a brand new factory replacement shaft when they were available?

^It would be great if you would post up a pic of one of yours with the code on it. What I'm trying to determine is the following:

1) Is the shaft I have original to the motor? The answer to this seems to be no but I need to know this with certainty.
2) Should replace the shaft? Am I aksing for trouble by using the current one I have or is it fine to use?

Thanks! As always, I appreciate the help.

I have 2 BRAND NEW OEM mazda E-shafts. Both are stamped..and are stamped on both pieces of the shaft.. They are stamped "D CC" Ie: D code and CC instead of a number since they were never installed into a production engine

Your motor does not have the original E-shaft but its not a big deal...

Your E-shafts looks fine to me from the pics... Maybe a simple micro-polish and thats it.. Is the shaft damaged in any way? Doesnt look to be from the pics....

David your best bet would be to get in contact with one of the Aussie racers. I've spoked to a couple and they have confirmed the difference in the shaft but with no pics to back that claim up being that they have only seen one of those shafts in existence and it was a very long time ago.

Ok
Just checked another motor that was bought for parts basically a core motor and it's an 'A' code but the shaft had a spun bearing on it and the code on the shaft does not match with the one on the motor but after further checking none of the plates match either because the motor has a 'C' rear housing and a 'B' front housing.
Anyway the code on the shaft was as follows. 'AA' 'CC' followed by 114.

Sorry to seem persistent about this, but I've received conflicting info on the e shaft number. You, Crispeed, and others have said the number should match and have provided good info. It would be very helpful if you would post up a pic of one of your shafts with the number on it. Or, if anyone else has one with a matching number, post it here.

Others, including several of the Aussie rotary guys have said the e shaft numbers don't match the engine number. It's very important to me at this time to make a final determination on this. I wouldn't bother you guys if it weren't.

Finally, if anyone knows why my shaft has only a "20" on it, please provide more info.

Thanks again!

Well guess what. You have to make the final decision. All I can say is that both motors I have opened here presently have matching numbers. I don't know for a fact if that's how they are supposed to be but that's the limit of my knowledge with the matter.
As for me posting a pic I don't see what that will prove to you because if you can't trust my word then I have much more important things to be doing than posting a pic to back what I say especially when in the end you will still have to make a final decision. Sometimes in life we have to take chances even if they are sometimes not needed.
BTW. Are you the one putting this motor together?

Oh wow, I'm not questioning your expertise at all and I do trust you. You're one of the best resources in the rotary world and I appreciate everything you've done for me.

I need the pic for a letter I'm compiling about my engine and I need to be able to say, "see, this is what should be on the shaft" Without your pic or one from someone else I have no physical proof of what should be on the shaft. Thus, your pioc would be very helpful. Sorry to give you the wrong impression.

As for the engine, no, I'm not the one putting it together. It's at Gotham Racing.

^Thanks so much. So close, but I don't see the "C" on the shaft though. Am I missing anything?
