OEM 20b FD??

I was talking to a guy that I work with today, he just moved here from Hawaii. We were bullshittin about cars, and I told him I had an RX-7. He said he knew a guy back in Hawaii with an FD, and he said it was a 3 rotor. I thought he was full of **** off the bat, because he was telling me he special ordered spark plugs and it cost 200 bucks. I figured if there was a FD out there, that was 20B equipped stock, I would know.

He went on to say that it was a limited production, because Mazda needed to produce some of them to race them in those races (kinda like the Saleen S7, and stuff like that.). That made it somewhat believable.

Have any of you ever heard of a EOM 20B FD? Or is he truly full of ****? I figured you all would know better, I'm a FC guy.

Riiiiiiiiight. And special order plugs? Yeah, we he may have ordered plugs and overpayed that much, but he's just throwing that at you. No 20b needs $200 plugs and no 20b was ever put into a publicly-sold FD by Mazda.

Lots and lots of people out there are full of ****, especially car people.

I was thinking that as well, I told him that a few times, but he swore by it. He is going to call his friend, and find out whats up.

Came with 549 hp and 460lb feet of torque-taken off supercars.net

From your brief description, it seems that he's not BSing but he prolly just lumped the facts together. An FD can have a 20B - nothing new here - but just not OEM. Special order plugs can cost $200 if he's ordering the Iridium stuff for a 20B (6 x $30) + shipping to Hawaii.

The Banzai is produced by Pettit, and although he has quite a bit of experience with rx-7's, it is not a factory car. See here:

THis might also sound like a bull ****.. but I have talked to this older gentleman here in Alabama that said he had a rare FD.. I asked him if it was R1 or R2.. He said something like Zr1 or Zr2... He bought it couple of years ago from a lawyer out in NC.. and he told him that it was some unique rally car made by mazda.. He called mazda of america and gave them the vin number.. He said mazda confirmed with him.. and because he was far from a dealer, he ended up getting some tools at dirt cheap price.. i think he told me that he got the diagnosic tool for 400 or something.. He send me a pic.. but its somewhere on my computer.. But it looks just like R1.

I was going to ask him about this, because I knew Petit had them, but he said it was factory. I figured it was like Saleen, you take the stock, then make it better.
