My 20b exhaust manifold.....

About a month ago I gave my 20b manifold to a Japanese friend to take to a machine shop so he could use it as a template for another one. I supplied him with a new 20b exhaust flange, t04 flange, and wastegate flange. He was going to order the pipping and start working on it but this last week was in a motorcycle accident and broke his wrist so now the stuffs sitting at my friends shop. He has a tig welder and plenty of pipping laying around. He said the pipping is 1.5mm 304 SS. Is that stuff worthy for a manifold? Anyways he's going to be watching over my shoulder all day. He said it shouldn't take someone that hasn't welded before more than 10 hours. He was talking about tapping one end off and filling the runners with gas while you weld and it's suppose to seal better on the matting surface on the inside. Any other tips ya'll can give me? He was also saying you can get straight pieces of pipe and fill them with sand and heat the runner up and bend it so you don't have any welds. He said it's pretty hard though. Anyways here's a pic of my manifold that i'll be looking over. He looked it up in the Amemeya catalogue and said mine looks just like the one they sell. If anyones interested there 200,000Y and i'd be glad to pick one up for ya. Not sure how long the wait is though. The runners are 50mm. Here's some pics.

I have no idea. Mine comes close to the steering rack. Not to much of a problem in the states so i'd imagine there would be plenty of room there. Aern't most manifolds interchangable anyways between fd and fc? Also anyone ever deal with 304 ss? How's it going to hold up under the heat from the 20B?

i tried looking on RE's website and could only find FC manifolds, and no 3 rotor mani's. I dunno...the space between the turbine and the car is different from FC to FD...I dont know which has more room, id have to say Fc, cuzz the shock tower is behine the turbine, whereas FD has the sloping front to it...i dunno...anyhow, anyone know if 304 stainless is acceptable for 20b manifold? thanks

20B exhaust manifold in progress.....

Felix is Alive, I can find out for you tomorrow if RE makes one for the fd.

I worked on the manifold for about an hour Thursday and about 3 hours today. This is what I have so far. I'm going to start welding it together tomorrow starting with the #2 runner. Merging the 3 runners together is going to be a PITA. Also when I saw the pipping he orded it wasn't 1.5mm like I had thought he told me before. It is 3mm. This stuff is thick and will never crack. Open to any comments.

i made mine from 321ss and had it tig welded , construction is also very critical , otherwise it wil start cracking , not shure if 304 will hold up as 20b`s tend to run hot , i guess your e gonna have to find out fur us here , and yes the fc has way more room than the fd can you get a price/pic of the amemiya one???

BTW youre mani looks bitching...let me see if i can post mine
here ya go

just noticed youre post says 3mm , dang dude bullet-proof , if youre heaving trouble you could buy a pre made collector it will save you a lot of headache

Merging the 3 runners together was a bigger pain in the *** than I had thought. I got the #2 and 3 runner constructed and merged then I did away with the #1 runner. I didn't really like the bend in it. It's a little to abrubt. Then we broke the welder out and the garage we where working in wasn't wired up properly or something. Anyways he said the welder wasn't getting enough power. So now that i'm out of days to work on it down there he's going to finish it up. The 3mm stuff is a little difficult to work with as well. Next time i'm going to order 1.5mm stuff and just practice with that.

Felix is Alive, I've seen those collectors on burnsstainless before but had forgot about them. I'll use one next time. It looks like it makes your turbine sit kinda high though?
