68 Days

The long block is entirely finished. Cold side pipe pictured almost finished, just needs polishing. Need to remount the turbo with exhaust gaskets, hook up oil lines, fill with fluids, finish hot side piping and its done. Hoping to finish in under 90 days! 3 months to a 3-rotor

You really need an idler pulley so that you do not have premature bearing failure.

Are you going to keep the double throttle?

My fb rew has over 80k miles without the idler pulley and all is fine. I made sure not to overtighten. So long as the wp pulley isn't wet or greasy it won't slip.

I need to delete the double throttle at some point.

I will bet money there is excessive wear on the front and rear bearing of the REW. We see it every week, can tell the engines that have the smog pump still and the ones that don't.

The 20B is even more susceptible, since the e-shaft is longer and there are 3 stationary gears. The engine is well known for eating the intermediate bearing.

It is your engine, do what you want with it.

Cool, ill consider the idler. I may go electric water pump as well. Ill decide after its running, in the mean time the focus is cranking it.

Thanks

great job with the build!

I also went with a staged fuel setup. I have the AEM ECU activating the second pump based on boost or TPS. I went with dual feed lines to each rail, but I'm sure the -8AN will be fine.
[IMG][/IMG]

I was also careful to use submersible fuel pump wires.

I am also considering going with a 20B swap when I get bored with my current setup. I'd be hoping to mount the motor far enough back to go with a Vmount. I've seen a few 20B FD's on the Defined page that can still fit a Vmount. I guess there subframe allows for that and cleard the front axle so no bump steer either.

I can't believe how fast you have knocked out this build; great job and get some videos of the start up.

Thank you very much.

That's an amazing looking fuel pump setup. Very clean and reliable. I'm curious as to how/if the fuel pressure changes for us when the second pump comes on line under load.

Update: Parts stolen, minor set back

Came back to the garage yesterday to find that the Greddy BOV, custom cut v-band flange for compressor outlet, oil return fittings, and a few fittings for our s2000 are missing. Trying to nail down who took our parts.

Ordered an HKS SSQV Black Edition. Now I have to wait a week or two for a f*cking flange to be cut for this turbo outlet. Its a rare non-standard ~2.5" outlet with a larger then usual apex width.

On the plus side, we finished the bracketry for the radiator and fuse boxes. Need to finish welding a small 2mm gap on the manifold requiring an unusual gas lens/tip to reach, then fill the radiator and its time for the first start. Stay tuned!

Yes, I did notice fuel pressure oscillations when I reviewed my AEM data log. I fixed it with these Marren Fuel Pulsation Dampeners. The worked really well. I welded one into the secondary rail and attached one in the original stock FPD location before the primary rail.

I flow tested the setup and I'm getting 310 LPH to each fuel rail. Should be plenty when I go 20B on 93.

Your manifold looks great! Are you planning on tapping each runner for monitoring EGTs? Also you may want to wrap it and fab a heatshield between the downpipe and LIM.

Keep charging. This this thing is going to be legendary.

That fuel setup is perfection. I forgot about fuel pulsation.

Never heard anyone having a pulsation issue. Can you shed more light on your findings.

any chance you have a picture of when you tried to mock up the turbo prior to adjusting the manifold? Was the turbine housing hitting anything (fender wall or LIM?). I'm trying to make the decision on the manifold but don't really want to buy if I need to chop it.

You will definitely need to chop it. It sits the turbo way to high up in the engine bay. The hood would never close. The turbo did not hit any of the frame, LIM, etc but the height above the engine was hysterical.

Update

Getting closer to finishing. Had the oil filler neck fabricated yesterday. Decided to weld turbo outlet charge pipe to the actual compressor housing; screw trying have another custom flange made.

Mounted wastegate and manifold with gaskets/bolts to the motor.

All thats left is to finish the charge piping and crank it. Lots of pics soon.

A Little Side Note Eye Candy

Sold our FB yesterday to a young man in Texas. Going to miss this baby. We spent the past week relocating the intercooler and finishing up a few touches. Went out on the flatbed yesterday.

Need to do a 20b FB next.

Regarding the FD3S. Today marks 80 days into the build. Ahhh hitting the 3 month goal here soon. Lets see if we can finish in time.

Stay tuned for more pictures of the princess FD, got some more tricks coming

Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with the outcome of this manifold/wastegate/dp setup. Many may look at this assume its waste of time hacking and rewelding, but at the end, costs were still less then making one from scratch. Fitment is spot on at this point. Just need to weld the vband flange to the compressor housing and slap the turbo/dp on.

Looks good man! Curious on how much you have into the manifold setup? I have $350 total into mine.

^ If in fact you are running 304SS or 321SS at that price do you care to share where you get your supply?
