FC swaybar/oilpan ideas?

Just wondering what all you other 20b FC guys did about the swaybar and oilpan space conflict...?

I thought i was just gonna make a custom oil pan, i didnt realize that the sump had that kink in it that sticks down too low for that. did anyone just re-plumb the sump?

Anybody modify the stock swaybar to mount in a new location or anything like that?

hook me up with some good ideas!

thanks
Pat

Ted i thought about a swaybar, but I'm not sure how I'd like to do it... im trying to do this project on a budget...at this point not really because i cant afford it, but more to prove it can be done.... I have access to a shop, but I'm not sure what specs to use.... I was thinking maybe 1" 4140 (chromoly) steel, but I think it may need to be heat treated after being bent, and I'm not sure where I could get that done.

If anyone has any input on swayber design, im all ears....

Mine is currently welded to my favor (yes this sounds like...and is a bad idea) but it was temporary for auto-x. Just drive around without one for now, i did it for about 3 months, just be ready for oversteer if you go into a corner hard.

Ours is 1.25".
It is drilled 3 holes per side, and the dimensions are based on the stock FC sway bar.
The center hole is like stock, but we added one extra hole per side to give us adjustability, since we were doing a guesstimate on performance.
Holes are 1" apart.

All you need to do is take out the "kink" in the center, and it all fits.

yeah, i'd like to see some ballpark price ideas... Ted I didnt see yours on your online catalog thing....?

Anybody just cut the center section out of the stock one, flip it over, and weld it back together? I would do that, but im afraid the heat from welding it will mess up the spring steel....

For my V8 conversion, I had a 1 1/8" bar made up by Quikor Engineering back in '93. It turns out, they still have the pattern and have 1" versions in stock. It's $225 plus shipping. And this is what it looked like:

Talk to Glen by phone 503-819-7847 or this e-mail: quickor@aol.com.

Works outstanding.

Looks like it sits a bit too low for my tastes, wonder how hard it would be to have it rotated more towards the front.

It's no lower than the bottom of the crossmember. The point it goes across is not even as low as the lowest point of the STOCK bar.

This was designed for the front of a Sport model FC that was 3" lower than stock, street driven, and successfully autocrossed.

No. The cost of the swaybar was wrapped in the total cost of doing the 20B conversion. (At that time, Mitch worked for Peter Ferrell.)

I think all the info was in a thread somewhere down there?
Sorry, I don't remember all the details off the top of my head.
Price is around $400 - $500 depending on options...

Merc63, I havent been able to contact the guy at that number or by email... are you sure its right?

Ted... I dont think I can swing that much cash for a swaybar... If you dont mind me asking, what is it made of or how is it treated to make such a high price tag?

Thanks guys.

Glen is by himself at the shop. He may not answer emails the same day as you send them. But yes, that's the e-mail and number. Quite a few of us building the V8 conversions have bought the swaybars from him. But it might take a week or more for him to answer the emails.

Quickor's been doing swaybars for street rods and swaybars for 3+ decades...

First RX7 bar Quickor made was for me back in '93, and the last one he sold came to a V8 conversion board member on 4/30 of this year. The info is directly from an email recieved from Glen. Have patience, grasshopper.

As he said:

"I do have these bars in stock ready to send and can make plenty of them.

I did close the main Quickor shop due to my health, but am downsized and produce limited stock for certain cars that are of interest,,,RX-7 included."

It's all custom made by some small shop in Oregon.
The guy has the template and dimensions, so replicating them is not that big of a deal.
It's standard "spring steel" material, which is what the majority of the bars are made of.
We could've gotten the price down significantly if we could get 10+ units made at a time.
This is basically a one-off, very low volume run.
That was the price we've been quoted, and that is what we paid for since we wanted it NOW.
We've been happy with the service, since we went through a prior unit that didn't fit well - the shop was willing to work with us to get the bar done right.
I don't mind paying that kinda price, since we've sunken in close to $20k into the car right now...
Bottom line is that we have tracked the car, and although it runs no turbos, the car drive very nicely and neutrally with this bar.

Hmm. That's where Glen/Quickor is located. But the prices are quite a bit different.
