Does that mean I can do mine for $6k-8k since I am starting with a 'vert that already has a TII drivetrain installed?

(but honey, my car NEEDS a new motor... honest it does. NO, dear, I am not selling it to get a Lexus... get your own!)

Yes. You can do it relatively cheap...

jspec motor - 3000
haltech - 1200
intercooler and pipes - 1000
motor mounts - 500
Fabricate everything else yourself - 1000
T2 hood - 300 (if you don't have one already)

That is a VERY simple list... but its pretty close, and only (HAHAHAHA, I said "Only") about $7000

I have different ideas on the intercooler. I bet I can do a NICE one for about $500.

What's this "fabricate everything else yourself" part? Such as?

Well,

you need to make a new TB elbow, you will need to modify the twins because no standalone will run them in seq. You will need to make a new sway bar. New oil cooler lines. Custom radiator.

Those are some stuff off the top of my head.

And about the FD well you can drop it off

But FDs are alot more expensive to do, because you need a subframe & you either have to screw with the steering.

You can do a nice one that probably will not flow enough for a 20B with any type of performance. If you want one that will work for ~300-400RWHP you could probably get by with a $500 intercooler. but that probably will not be a very good core.

I have a custom radiator already, but it might not be big enough. That dual-crossflow griffin looks like it would work. $200 or so + having mounts made. I had the TB elbow thing in mind already, and the modification of the stock twins. That's MY time and work, not $$.

Griffin intercooler core, make it the way I want it. I can do the piping myself. Pretty? No... maybe not... but effective.

I forgot about the oil cooler lines... but that is no big deal- I'll have the local hydraulics shop do them to my measurements. (with stock ends) No big deal.

The swaybar thing SUCKS. I'll have to think about that.

Besides, I don't REALLY want a 20B. (ok, maybe I do....) but a Renesis would be nice. MUCH simpler. LOL

There are tons of little things like that that pop up.. And then their is the question of doing it and doing it right... You should probably get a new oil cooler too. I figure pick up to 2nd gen oil coolers and have the cores put together with new end tanks..

making your own oil cooler lines is NOT a big deal... just get some metric to AN converters from Mazdatrix, (4) -10 AN adapters (I have 4 90 degree ones, but I relocated, EVERYTHING), about 6 feet of -10 line and you're in business.

The swaybar thing isn't as bad as it sounds. It is a softer metal that will take nicely to welding and extending the ends (so my machinist tells me, haven't done it yet).

I had a COMPLETELY custom radiator from 1-866-ALUM-RAD made for $300.... everything to my specs. The brackets are easy to make, just get some angle Aluminum and a metal break (about $20 from Harbor Freight) and some bolts and you're in business.

Renesis... I'll have to drive one first (wait, I haven't driven a 20B yet... but I can just tell I want it )

I recently ordered one of these.... it arrived, but I'm not home to open it up. Did you order the rotary race version, or the normal rotary version? Did you order the mounting kit? Got pics of the water pump?

I didn't order a rotary pump, i went with the remote mount race version (12v) that flows 55 gallons per minute, the AN fittings and the rotary adapter plate. There are pictures on my webpage, but I'll have to dive them out tomorrow... too tired right now.

I live 13 hours from Marvelspeed. I've taken my care there before when I had the 60-1 installed... this time around, I wanted to do everything myself, except the engine.... so I shipped it off to Don

Update:
Making -10 AN lines isn't as easy as it sounds... its a pain in the ***. I don't have the nice aluminum AN wrenches, so I had to stick one end in a vice and turn the other end with an adjustable wrench... and routing the lines was a **** too... its done though. Not too bad, but it wasn't as simple as I thought.

Last night, I also wired the 2 Haltech Relays and the fuel pump. If I can hold my eyes open tonight when I get off work, there is a high possibility that it will be running tonight. Maybe tomorrow....

Anyone is welcome to go in a ride, but only Jesus Christ and myself will be driving it (and I haven't seen Jesus, so he may not even be real ) so, no, you can't borrow it

Also, if it is running this weekend, or if it isn't, anyone is welcome to come down and give a hand. I normally woulnd't mind stand around gawkers just drinking beer, but if you come down now, you're gonna get greasy (and prolly drink some beer) So, if you're bored, give me a call 309-287-2254 and I'll give you instructions.

You may want to get better gauges instead of the 3 in 1 deal.

Just a suggestion since I bought Autometer's 3 in 1 gauges and the water temp gauge broke a few months after. I may have gotten the defect of the bunch.

We did work tonight... all night. From about 8pm until 3:30am. Got everything hooked up, but had a problem with the starter. The haltech relays all worked... the ecu turned on, fuel pump relay clicked, turn the key, nothing. Too tired too look into it or continue working on it. Time for bed.

BTW, those gauges are from the old car... just there temporarily. I'll be going with a Motec ADL most likely.
