Thanks. Here is a cool shot (imo) of the rotating assembly being dynamically balanced.

Wow, now if I could just see that in person, my life would be complete.

Okay, not really, but that would be seriously cool to watch that balancing process.

Is it equal length on that manifold?

Seems like This is a better design

No, but it would probably be more cost effective if I quit my job and took one there

Streldoc, can you take the discussion of your manifold to another thread? -I do have to say I was thinking about using a similar design for my manifold though. By positioning the collector horizontally and adding a single bend to the collector it creates a great location to connect the wastegate. Ultimately my setup worked better for my car given the position of the motor and turbo.

Sorry that any discussion between our manifolds got going. Not my intent. I was just posting to agree with you and 20B3rdGen about how challenging it is to get the manifold, wastegate and 4" downpipe to fit, and to show another solution.

If anyone has any further questions or discussion about my manifold please pm me personally.

Thanks

Back in black! The manifold and downpipe are done. The turbine housing should arrive any day.

Someone asked if the welds were cleaned on the inside of the runners. All the excess was ground away, but there wasn't much to begin with because an excellent tig welder did the work. Name: DSCF1397.jpg

As I mentioned before I am using a high resolution 60-2 trigger setup. I purchased the timing wheel directly from Electromotive. It needs some cosmetic work (which it will get), but it is very true and bolts right up.

Since a custom CAS mounting bracket is required I was not tied to using the Electromotive CAS. Neel at Apexspeed Technology recommended a Mag rather than a Hal sensor given the rpm range of the motor, my obsession with accuracy, and the fact that the ECU has the ability to use different trigger levels for high and low rpm operation. He feels that the Motec 5/8th" mag sensor is the best one available. I am not going to say I got what I paid for because the price (set by Motec) was brutal, but it's about as nice as a CAS could be.

I am putting together a really trick sensor bracket using 1/8" aluminum to connect it to the 20b front cover. I am going to do the final verson in 3/16" to make sure there is no flex (the sensor is pretty heavy) plus it will allow me to counter sink the mounting points. I only need 2" of material, but the minimum order quanity was 8 feet, so I may run off a few more down the road if anyone wants one.

I get an 'F' for courtesy on that one. Rich was nice enough to hook me up with his source for ceramic coating. I'm very happy with how it came out.

Thanks man. It's nice to now be writing checks for tangible things instead of labor for the same items over and over -something I did for 2 years :p.

The Carbonetics clutch arrived from Titan Motorsports tonight. I am very impressed by how well it was packaged. The high-gloss box looks like something a video game system would come in, the instructions are clear, and it even came with spare bolts.

After I marveled at the box for about 10 seconds I immediately put it on the bathroom scale.

It looks real good man, just hope that you go through all the way. I've seen some build-ups were people throw nice money on it and then dissappear. I hope you pull through with it and get to show it off. I wish you luck.. keep on with the updates.

So what gearbox are you going to run on this thing?

The big bad stock FD gearbox. I know that Chris spent a lot of time researching many different options and he couldn't come up with a suitable choice.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Martin, re. follow-through, I completely agree and have noticed the same thing. For the sake of my remaining sanity, I am committed to getting this car on the road in one form or another by spring.

Re. the gearbox, I am going to use the stock one for the time being. If it doesn't hold up well I will probably use some derivative of the T56 (M12). I like the idea of using a T56 transaxle (really just a t56 bolted directly to the dif). However, off the shelf it is a little too long and wide to fit into the FD chassis without significant modifications. Maybe that will be next winter's project . . .

well honestly I'm glad to hear your using the stock gearbox. It should resist quite some hp in this form but won't cope with the torque I guess. Deopends on your driving and use.

I think it would go a long way like this if you use the car for street use and don't drag it like most of you guys in the US. Mostly gearboxes break first and second gear and they hold quite well from 3rd on

I am slowly piecing together a harness design with their help. Hopefully I will be ready to order everything in a week or so and then the real fun begins.

On another note, Apex Speed sent me a very nice holiday card last month. Since that level of courtesy is so uncommon I wanted to make note of it. Again, they have been very helpful with the project. I highly recommend giving them a call if shopping for a Pectel, Motec, Haltech, or AEM products.

It's smaller than I expected, but very heavy for its size. Hopefully it is up to at least a few starting attempts.
