I'm stunned as well... I knew Chris from the moment he bought his first FD and i had to talk him thru his rat's nest replacement on it over the phone. Can believe he's gone.
No details on what happened yet?

sad news indeed....
like C. Ludwig said before my heart just sank reading this, i didn't know Chris personally but in the few Pm's we exchanged and reading this thread i got the impression that he was a great guy. sad to know we won't be getting new updates from him anymore...
rest in piece Chris - CMonakar. you will be missed but not forgotten

Shannon, on more than one occasion Chris spoke fondly of your various misadventures.

Rich,
When the calls/inflammatory messages stopped coming in the morning, I knew something was wrong. A harder road up ahead without Chris, that's for sure.

Chris used to call me every weekday at around 8am when he walked to work....it was great to talk FDs with him first thing in the morning. It's just now starting to sink in that I won't be chatting with him any more......still can't believe this happened, it seems so sudden and without reason.

sad news, i had just got done reading the thread last week and was so excited for updates, and then read this stuff. good luck to his family and friends. i know rich and one other were closer to him, please make sure the car gets a good home and not parted out or abused, itd be a shame to see all that hard work go to waste

I'm really going to miss him...
spent many nights talking about ideas and studying the damn fd wiring diagram.
I've learned more about the SQ6 than some of my own ems units
..i'll miss you buddy;

Chris was a really good guy and I will miss him as a friend. I would speak to Chris every week and I got to hang out with him a few times since he moved from NC to NYC. When a forum member contacted me and told me about this thread I thought it was some sick joke, but I called a mutual friend of ours to check if it was true or not, unfortunately it was. This explains why I couldn't get in contact with him after calling and emailing him repeatedly for the past 5 days. Chris will be missed by everyone who knew him, he was a good friend and human being. My condolences go out to his family and the rest of his close friends. Godspeed my friend.

WOW !
Very sad and shocking news.
I had to make a phone call to confirm it.....simply unreal !
Last time we spoke was a week ago, the conversation went from ignition maps to turbo sizing and eventually to formula 1 racing......
Sadly, I never had a chance to meet Chris but he will be missed.
My condolences to his family and friends.
RIP CHRIS

Its a sad day when someone as helpfull as Chris passes on . He had so much to look forward to. I never met Chris but I am sitting in front of my computer with a sense of emptiness and sadness as I come to the realization we will never hear from him again. I always looked forward to his posts as i watched his dream car come to fruition. It was great to see someone take such pride in the car and build the car to such an unbelievable high standard. He was an inspiration for me to build my car in the same mould, but it wasn't in the same league when completed. I don't post very often but I have been part of rx7club for over 6 years. He was very helpfull and always willing to give advice last year when I installed my 3 rotor in my fd racecar. We both opted to cut the firewall and move the motor back 6+inches.
I had jokingly mentioned to him that if he ever became bored of his car to call me first when he wanted to sell it, knowing he would probably keep it forever. To those that were close to him please keep us informed as to the status of the car and the details of his passing. My condolences to his friends and family.

Ihor and I spent most of today in the 100 degree heat cleaning out and degreasing the shop space that Chris used to use to work on his 3 rotor in. We had planned to share it with him......I still instinctively reach to dial his number to chat about FD stuff when I hit the road to drive between our shop and my apartment.....

i dont even know what to say... I only met Chris in person once, i drove out to jersey to buy his old 13b plates from him and we ended up hanging out talking about his 3 rotor plans for 2 hours. we would later speak through pm's and e mails. he was a great guy and very willing to help people. i'm seriously in shock over this all. it just dosent make any sense, he seemed so healthy and young..
RIP CHRIS, you will be missed.

I am absolutely and utterly speechless. It seems like just yesterday I was at Chris's with my brother Rich checking out his 3 rotor setup. I still remember how excited he was to get the car to idle so I could hear how badass it truly sounded. I also remember the time Rich and I were on the side of the road helping Chris out b/c of a timing belt that had come off on his car...and how it was freezing out, but we still partook in a comical time as always haha...great memories.
Obviously I was not as close to Chris as Rich was, but I still had the pleasure of getting to know Chris on a personal level. He was quite a unique individual: Extremely genuine, enthusiastic, funny, and intelligent; characteristics that are hard if not impossible to come by these days. I thoroughly enjoyed the time I got to spend with Chris. My heart goes out to his family and friends.
Chris, you will be missed but never forgotten...RIP buddy
