Can anyone tell me how many places are these # stamped and where? Are these number supposed to be on all 3 housing?

#'s should be stamped next to 20b on the rotor housings, if it's scratch'd off, that usually means its been reman'd by Mazda

A friend and I went to look at a front clip that supposedly have no #s. The mid and rear housing had no #s next to the 20B and doesn't appear to be scratched off, just no numbers. At closer inspection, we found only the front with #s, it showed C735. Did a compression test and brought the baby home!

My question is, has the two other housing have been replaced?

Congratulations

You possibly have a crash test car engine or one of the very first from the dealer floor. Easily the earliest 20B engine I have heard of

Dealer delivered cars started at Cosmo#034. Your engine is #45.

Mazda never put matching engines with VIN into the Cosmo. Some engines where always set aside during batch runs for warranty or other purposes. By the time they got to engine #999, it was Cosmo #830

John, Sounds like you have one special engine!!

FYI: My 20Bs have # stamped on all the housings. Some are just hard to see.

Well I will say that when I got the motor, none of the vaccum lines look'd old and I was able to just slide them all off with my hands with little to no effort , the motor had been run before as it had oil in it. I have yet to pull the motor apart so I'm not sure what the condition the internals are in. Oh! it's not a 045 it's 048

My B685 has the number stamped on the front plate, all 3 rotor housings, and has "F", "C", "R" on the housings as well.
Got this motor off Rotaspec. puts out 400 hp with std twins, good for killing series 4/5 gearboxs.

The F, C, R refers to the housing position Front - Center - Rear

B985 here but i thought this might be other chance to share this. http://www.roadraceengineering.com/4g63motorsearch.htm Yes it is a MAZDA 323 locator list but it worked for me. This was the most helpful list i have found to locate 20b's found 4 and due to compression numbers i had to turn down3 of them. Perfect helpful list for those who are looking for 3-rotors.
