20B Ignition setup...

I was just looking on Summit's website for that 6462 retard controller, it doesn't mention anything about multi channel inputs... where did you read about that option? Probably on the msdignition website which I'm going to right now...

The multi-channel is pn #6562 http://www.msdignition.com/n2000b.htm
It is ment to be used with dis-4's.

Ok, here's my idea....
I'm going to run 6 Series 4 or 5 trailing packs, each one has 1 ignitor. I will use one pack per spark plug, but only use one coil per pack. I'll either leave the extra coil there, or possibly detach it depending on how the ignitor is hooked to it.
I have a Haltech E6K that I'm going to use for now... firing each spark plug on each rotor at the same time. In the future, I will either add a Haltech IG4/5, or upgrade to the E11 when it comes out...
does anyone see any flaws in this plan?

However, when it's time to upgrade you will have to change out the coils
for the original plan (six trailing coils). Then to connect one igniter per coil to give true split timing with the ECU upgrade.

at the bottom of the page.
you will need three of these each will have its own "channel". These would be used for the trailing plugs.
http://www.msdignition.com/1dis.htm
The DIS 4 would be used for the leading plugs (only three of the four channels).

That ***** gettin expensive.... The DIS4 is at LEAST $325, retail is closer to $400... then each on of those 6211 boxes is at least another $300. I can pick up an IG5 for around $400 and do it correctly.... or just do a hack/temporary job with no extra equpiment (I'm hoping here....)
Right now, the plan is to run 6 trailing packs with no split. If anyone sees any problems with this... please let me know. I'm getting ready to buy this **** ASAP

We have been running with the dual DIS4's which works great. But the cost is too restrictive. The retard box ideas are good too, but also gets too expensive. The dual DIS4's can be driven on the single E6K if you don't want to trail split. We drove the trailing DIS4 with the Haltech IG5.
For coils, this our latest test was with the MSD DIS units (6 of them), tucked under the plenum on a machined aluminum brace/mount (like in the R26B).
The IG5 is relatively cheap, but since it is like the old Haltechs, required external reluctors such as the 8509. The external reluctors are a pain to deal with, because it is on the same car with the E6K that does not require the external reluctors.
This setup is currently being ripped out of the car as we speak and is going into another 20B FC transplant out there. We are pursuing a simplier, less expensive setup. We'll post the details when it is ready.
