20B dry sump system

Hi,

Just a question about the oil systems in the 20Bs.

Its my understanding that they have a standard dry sump system built within.

I have a 3 stage peterson pump which I was planning on using on a RB30 motor. I am no longer going a head with that project and wanted to know if I can use this pump over the factory setup on the 20b?

If anyone has any photo's of a dry sump system with an external pump setup on a 20B then can you please post them for me...

Thanks

easy to do...look at peterson site for diagrams how to connect it all up.get you pressure outlet and connect it to a 4 way 6 an fitting.3 of these go to oil gallerys tapped into the side of the block.the last 4th one goes to the turbo oil intake.one scavenge line to pump can be used from turbo outlet directley to pump or connect into timing cover via usuall way.as for oil gallerys into motor youll need to convert them to "remote feed" at side of engine block.all scavenge intakes at pump go from front of lower sump.origonal oil pump can be discarded and oil outlet not used.oil pressure is easily adjustable from outside of pump with allen key.not much difference between v8 and rotary just do what the diagram says the only thing different is all scavenge line return form sump as no heads on rotary...
i was going to do this on my 20b but gave up after issues with clearance on frame rails.(daul rail chassis)im sure the pump you have will be o.k.

Simply Dry sump

Couldn't you use the factory oil passages and just plug off the factory oil pump?
Looking at the following picture of the turbo oiling system: http://mazdarx7.iougs.com/lubrication.shtml

It seems you could plug off the entire front cover and just run the sump suction lines from a custom oil pan and run the pressure line into the oil cooler return passage at the back of the block.

So the flow would be:
From pan to suction to oil tank.
From oil tank to pressure section of dry sump pump to oil cooler to oil cooler return passage. From rear cooler passage to oil filter to main gallery which feeds front and rear bearings and turbo port. All three return into the custom dry sump pan.

Would this work or is there more benefit to splitting up the supply outside the engine and directly routing it as you indicate.

Factory dry sump setup for reference followed by several various external pump setups.

Hanover did a wonderful job explaining how to go about a DIY setup on the other forum (nopistons). You might extract all that info and post it here.
