How many posts have you seen in the 1st gen section on fyling a professional tunner into town to work on your car? Don't need too because its simple.

But the difference is the 3rd gen section has a lot of younger kids who have not acquired the mechanical skills yet, and get overwhelmed by the complexity and cost of maintenance and parts. They are younger and less mature and maybe seem less nice, but in person they are ok.

I don't know about over there but when I was at Sevenstock, most FD guys are in their mid to late 20's while the majority of SA/FB and FC guys were around 18 to early 20's. Of course, you have the older guys in each group though.

Why start a thread like this, are you just trying to get FD owners pissed at 1st gen owners? Just admire the fact that FD owners love their cars and are willing to spend $ to keep them running. I think I need to start a thread in the FD section about cheap *** 1st gen owners who spend all of their free time working on cars, which btw aren't worth **** for the most part. I love my 4 first gens, but my FD is very special as well.

We're stating the fact that it's rediculous how many of these people don't work on their cars, that's all.
Go ahead and start whatever posts you want in the FD section, we're not strung out FD owners, so we really don't give a damn.

As someone who has owned all three gens, my opinion is that the 3rd gen is harder to work on simply because it is more complicated and densely packaged. And as someone who has done most of the work on all of the cars, I can also say that the packaging makes it very hard to even get your hands into an area to make the repair. For this reason, there are a lot of special tools needed.
I also remember looking at the rats nest of my 1st gen years ago and thinking, wow, this is complicated. Now, I look at them and think, "peice of cake", I would kill to have this simplicity in my 3.
I would be willing to bet that almost all the parts for my 3rd gen (at least 90%) MUST come from the dealer and you all know how much that costs. I think the percentages are much lower for the 1st Gen. I also think the dealer soak the 3rd gen owners. I recently purchased a water level sensor for my '94. It cost ~$80. The same sensor - with a different connector - cost only around $50 for my second gen.
And the complication and tight packaging makes most of the jobs longer than those for earlier cars. All this adds up to a higher cost for the 3rd gen than the others. And oh yea, you can't even get a Haynes Manual for the 3rd Gen. So there goes a lot of valuable information.
By the time you add up all the time, tools, complication, etc, it may be cheaper for some to just 'get it fixed' by someone who does it every day. In my situation, I look at the amount of time I have free to work on it vs. the time the car will be down vs. the tools, parts, and materials needed, vs. the cost of a trip to a repair shop, it is sometimes cheaper to just have the shop do it - especially when you look at the value added of a warranty.
-----
As for handling, none of the others can touch the 3. Not even close.
Regarding beauty? I loved the look of my 1st gen. I think the 2nd gen got away from that classic look to a generic - "I wanna be a 944 too" styling - big mistake. To be honest, the only reason I purchased a 2nd gen (after getting used to the classic looks of the 1) is because I drooled all over the vert when I saw it in the dealership and they made my buy it or clean it up!
The vert looks like almost a different car from the coupe. After so many years now, and the fact that the 1st gens are rarely seen, the second gen has come more into itself. I think it is unique and not bad looking. And after all these years, it is easy to see that it has a look of it's own that is not as close to the 944 as we thought when it first was released.
I have always thought the 3rd gen was the best looking, but I think that is because the 3rd gen is a update of the 1st gen, and not of the 2nd. To me, it is like they took the 1st gen, heated it up, and shapped it with saran wrap to get the tightly strecthed body.

It's sometimes cheaper to have someone fix the car because taking time off work would've cost more.
As far as design goes, the 3rd gen is totally based of the 1st gen. The general profile is almost the same especially the back and hatch area.
