worst...interior....ever

this is my much loved 79 savanna of 2 years, although the body looks pretty dingy in this shot its actually rather good, repainted 2 months ago.

moving on, this car has perhaps the most awful interior ive ever seen.

im now in the process of replacing the carpets with purple moulded ones and ive got new black vinyl RX seats, new black dash and new door panels etc to replace all this brown trash. ill post a pic when im finished...damn i love my car.

Hey that steering wheel won't go to well with your purple interior so just take it off now and send it to me! Good luck with that color combo.

Okay Im done, I am sorry for my rudeness do what you want with you car... If its done "well" even I will have to respect you. Just not every 7 owner's first color choice is purple.................... But there is nothing wrong with the 7's brown interior!

My old 79.... that I no longer have... *pout* But yeah my old 79 was a dull red and plaid interior And I ROCKED the plaid seats! The back seats were plaid too! I sold it to a good friend of mine. So I get to see it occasionally, still plaid though!!

So if its a savannah, whats it doing with mirrors on the doors? I though the mirrors were on the front fenders for savannahs.

You can convert them, or so I've heard.

Yes the drivers seat is ripped in this, but soon to be reupolstered Also the lighting doesnt do the color justice.... But it is the original black interior!

I had a 79 come in the shop, another forum member, that has the tan/brown interior. Seats had been recovered and he replaced the carpet with black. While I am not a fan of the plactic door panels, my Z had them too, this car is absolutely beautiful. By far the finest 1st gen I have seen. Even liked the yellow paint, made the car a complete package asthetically.

Besides all the random parts in the back, I found $3.77 in change, candy, a gas receipt from the 80's, a bullet, about 10 pens, and a yellow pages...

well im considering going with charcoal or black carpet instead as im replacing the entire interior with its black counterpart. yeah i removed the front mirrors and attached new ones.

had a good find in the other 79 complete RX i bought, an immaculate black dash and decent condition black seats.

also, if you dont believe me about the decent paintjob, give me a few weeks, the car is currently sitting in my factory where we do sandblasting etc so it has an extensive layer of dust and crud. im doing all the work to it in one hit, exhaust system, interior, CAI

I just wanted to say to LokiRX7 that it is possible to get a "civic" style shift boot to work in an RX. As a matter of fact most aftermarket boots either have an elastic bottom or a rope. All you gotts ta do it take the little shifter surround panel off, and (carefully) melt 6 - 2" pieces of a coat hanger into the plastic around the perimeter of the hole, let cool and then cut the 2" rods that are melted into the plastic down to about 1/4" or 3/8". Now the boot will slip over the pieces you just melted in to hold it in place, and come out from under the shifter panel, looking like a stock install. (the reason u have to cut them down is because its quite hard to get pieces that short hot enough to stick in very easily, also it gives you more controll.) I didnt even melt any of the rods through the plastic, so its definately possible as long as u take your time.

Way, too much work. I just siliconed the stock boot back into place, worked like a charm. Oh and if I had just painted a car, I would be pissed if any dust got on it... but thats just me...

The Aussie S1 gen 1s were identical to the JDM apart from badging. It would have been very uunusual to import a second hand JDM, but if one was imported as a personal car it had to be converted to Aussie regulations. Their S2-3 did not get the JDM improvements. The JDM RX-7s 'Savanna' had wing mounted mirrors until 1983 when they changed to the US style door mounted. Externally the difference between the later rhd models was the rear number plate area.

I like the brown interior especially when they got rid of the vinyl and had tweed cloth seats and door panels.

maybe it would have been nice 25 years ago when the browns were still rich and vibrant. instead of the atrocity you see before you.
