Won't start, what did I do??
This one has got me stumped. I just changed out a bad starter solanoid and put in a set of plugs in my 12a/'85 1st gen. Now it won't start. I've got spark, the right wires go to the right places there is gas and the timing mark for #1 leading plug is right on. I've tried all the flooded tricks I had used in the past for flooded 1st and 2nd gen motors, and not so much as a pop. Any ideas??

wow i'm surprised no one has tried to help on this one. i don't know much about timing so can't really help. my guess would be if spark and fuel (and it ran before you did this) is there it must be a timing problem.

pour a cap full motor oil down each barrel of the carb. turn the motor over by hand a couple times. pump the gas pedal around 10 times. turn the key. change plugs after you burn the oil out.

the oil trick will work garunteed. it's how i crank up 12a's that have sat for 10 years!!!!!! now it cranks every try when i say a capfull of oil... i think i really meant TWO capfulls. seriously, load that ****** up. the massive amount of oil in there will create a ton of compression. when it fires just keep your foot in it and try to burn it all out. you will definitely need new plugs after this but it will work. MMO SUX!!!

check tio make sure you're getting fuel and spark and air (thats all any engine needs)
now go borrow your neighbours Ford Windstar (however a MKII supra will suffice in a pinch) and 12 to 16 feet of chain and PULL THAT BITCH TILL SHE LEARNS WHO'S BOSS AROUND HERE!!
...thats right!

Does it turn over ?? im guessin it would ??
i like the pull start idea check that the motor is completely sealed 12A's have hight compression so the smallest leak will stop her from running. Mine did this to me and my oil hose was loose a tiny bit i put some plumbing tape around it and jammed it back in. blerg blerg re eee reeeee ravroooom

Thanks for all the good advise. It took three times with the oil trick to get it to work (I kept increasing the amount of oil) When it started up I thought the people that live around me were going to call the fire dept. One old lady came and stood in my driveway until I asked her what her problem was (I guess I cant expect a xmas fruit basket from that one!)
I've never had a rotary that was that flooded! The car's got less than 100K on it and the engine runs like a watch. Took it out and gave it a nice freeway drive to make sure it was up to temp and now its back to running like a watch.

Go to www.rx7.com(Rotary Performance of Garland Tx) then click the tech items box. Then go to the flooded section on 1st Gen RX7's. They have the write up on both ways to unflood the carb motor. They reccomend using ATF Transmission fluid and to pour about two ozs in each barrel, pump accelerator several times then hold pedal down and crak motor until it start. Also has the procedure on the really flooded motor. Later,Gary
