Hello, All.
Sorry if this is a duplicate, but I searched the archive and found nothing about this specific question. Just some simplistic advice that I cannot perform without more info.
Vehicle: FB 12a; all stock
Problem/symptom: wipers are jammed in the up position, motor is still good, because it still rattles back and forth, but the linkage is stripped or something.
Where I am at: Have the cowl removed and wiper arms and blades off, but now I cant reach my wiper motor to unbolt it. It's way back under that panel on the driver's side.. How did ya'll remove it? Do I need to strip more body panels off? the thread that I found about this just says to remove the motor.... hmm.
Just checking before I disassemble anymore than necessary. As ya'll know, I'll just find more problems and spend weeks replacing stripped bolts and rusted body parts that were glued or stuck together and would have been fine if left alone...
THNX in advance for replies....

All you need to remove is the cowl, although getting at the fasteners is a PITA depending on where the wiper arms are stopped. Usually, you shut off the car to stop the wipers in a vertical position because that allows the linkages to be removed from the compact location.
Usually it is just the linkages are frozen up and rusted, although there are some nylon bushings that like to get torn up. Mostly, just make alighnment marks on the arms so you can reassemble them correctly to the motor, disassemble the linkages, clean and lube everything well, reinstall

there's only 4 bolts that hold the whole assembly in. one on each side of the motor that's accessible when the cowl is removed and the other two below and toward the drivers side of the hood latch. then there's the nuts on the wiper studs. u had to remove one of them to get the cowl off.

okay, I'm gonna sound like an idiot... I have the cowl off. Okay.
1. Removed wiper arms, and made a mental note of their location... (should have checked forums before working on my 7, this should be SOP by now, I'd'v marked their location. But i get to thinking i know everything after 3 yrs in this love/hate relationship with this car)
2. Unbolted cowl. Some of the weather-proof vinyl on the motor tore when I did this, I just figured I'd use some 6mil plastic to fashion a new one.
3. i cannot reach the bolts on the far driver's side of the wiper motor, because it appears to be WAY back in the driver's side of the top hood panel.
I must be missing something obvious. Ya'lll make it seem so easy, but when I look, I can't see any bolts! I think, when I look at it, that I need to remove the front D.S. quarter panel to get to them~!
Any specifics pls? or pics> I've tried google images, and the PDF of manual on wankel.net and evrything. Getting very frustrated here.
Wanna buy an FB?

Taking fenders off probably wont get you anywhere, its all "sealed". Heres a (bad camera phone) picture with the fenders (and most everything else) removed to explain what I mean. See how you cant get into that area from the side under the fender?

Also, in that picture, two of the bolts that hold the motor in are on the firewall and can be seen almost straight above the strut tower, if that makes sense. So, follow the line the strut is on straight up until youre looking at the firewall, and there are two bolts. Those two, plus two more, are what hold it in.

To get the assembly out.
You need to turn the wipers on, and when they are half way up the windscreen in the middle of their stroke, pull the battery connection so the wiper arms stop halfway up the windsceen at a sort of a 45 degree angle.
The wiper arms need to be in this location so that the whole assembly can come out in 1 piece, once all the bolts have been removed.
If the arms aren't in this location they are too "long" and will not clear all the body panels allowing you to remove the complete assembly and thus allowing access to the wiper motor from outside of the car.
Understand? or did I just confuse you more????
