I believe that the best place to live and drive is below the Mason-Dixon line and above the gnat line. If you don't know about gnats and paint ruining "lovebugs", then you just think that ice and cold is a problem.
BTW, since I live in the deep South, I used the lamp rocker switch Trochoid mentions to turn my Bosch driving lights on or off. No need for the redundency of stock wiring scheme down here.

When I was a poor college student and my 83 GSL was my only car, I drove it in all kinds of weather. Real snow tires and the LSD cars do just fine in the snow...
Nowadays, for winter AWD is the greatest!
I've got a photo somewhere of the 7 parked behind my dorm with snow completely covering the car... and I don't mean "Oh wow, you can barely see the wheels and there about a foot on top" I mean "Is that a car or a snow drift?" I need to find that picture...

Snow is so beautiful. It makes everything so bright its near blinding. Its the one point of the year where driving your seven should be outlawed. It is colder than what I an stand, meaning I'm pretty much house locked. Its the time of the year where I get into a mad scurry to find another car to drive, this year I am thinking long term - Audi A4 if I can find one in my price range.
I always thought that switch was the change the lightbulbs though? lol It is a damn good idea, though.

I was driving our 7 last night in the thick of the snowstorm, and I was cruising better than some of the damned SUV idiots...I followed this dolt in his Audi with quatro drive and I had to get around him first chance I got as he was creeping like he was driving a sled. Probably still had his summer tires on the fool.
Anyhow, 120lb of sand in the hatch (on rubberized shelf liner so it does not slide around) and the 7 is one of the best snow cars I've ever had. I think putting the RB springs and KYBs all aound this summer helped some too. Made it a little more stable than last year. Only problem is once the snow gets too deep it makes a nice plow, cause it sits so low.

ha i dont have any snow tires and i make sure to keep as much weight out of the back as possible in the snow...i would much rather slide around the whole time im driving, its much funner, except for everyone around me always pulls over so that way there no were near me...its kinda funny

so far there has never been a winter that punked me or my Rx-7 when i lived in NY. err ... well ... almost. had the pleasure of driving from Charlottesville, VA back to the Bronx in hell of a snowstorm ('94-ish) had one little 180º episode on the Jersey Turnpike, but that was all until i got stuck about 4 houses up the block from mine. i had to walk home, grab the shovel and free the 7 ...
*sigh* i miss New York

I ran 7 all last winter 85 GSL with no interior and lots of rust holes, freakin cold inside but ***** loads of fun.
The best winter package I have found is to pay up the cable bill and dont come out til March..... I will never get used to this white crap...lol
Its too much fun to drive in, thankfully I've never managed to get stuck in any car in the snow cause I'm a ***** about the cold, I admit it....

well yesterday was the first real snow on the ground here, gotta go buy some snow tires since I gave out the one that i had on my old rims to my dads civic. we only had about an inch or so on the ground, but it was enough for me not to be able to drive up our drive way without using a little sling shot effect its really fun to do so, and must be a little on the presice side, because too fast and your rear end would want to turn around and to slow won't get you high enough. Maybe i can still catch some snow in the parking lots tonight

wacky one of these days, i'm going to tie you by your feet and drag you all the way up to alaska, and just spin donuts with you in the snow :P .. but on the more serious side, if you feel like paying for some dry ice and shipping i will be more than happe to give you a free Canadian Sample :P

free premix to the first 4 board member that get in a panel van and ****** wackyracer from his couch, blindfold and gag him, drive him to the Northern Territories and leave him in the middle of nowhere with a can of Campbell's chicken noodle - no fliptop, no can openers.
(j/k to all you rogues that actually might take this seriously ... )
