Winter weather reminder
Have any of you wondered why there is a seperate dash switch to raise the headlights and not turn them on? The weather that is currently hitting the midwest and moving east is the reason. I left both the 1st and 2nd gens out yesterday and last night, we had ice and the snow is coming. I had to chip ice off around the door of the 2nd gen just to get it open, it was frozen shut, no drip rails like the 1st gens.
The reason for the 2nd switch is we are supposed to be smart enough to pop the headlights up before the storm hits so we can use the headlights when needed. Needless to say, I didn't, so, 1 at a time, they go into the shop to thaw out so I don't damage the headlight motors trying to get them to pop up while they are frozen down.
Just a little fyi from a frozen post *****.

Wouldn't it be nice if they made a heated car cover like heated blankets? **** that's my million dollar brainstorm for the year, lol.
Don't forget to keep your winter survival bag in the vehicle at all times during winter. Don't want to see any 4 toed members, lol.

I thought about including a list of the basic winter survival kit to carry. This would be a good place for members to post what they carry and feel is needed, not only for road trips but for city driving too.
Have at it guys/gals, post your kits or items that you feel should be carried for cold weather.

We just had this discussion on a newsgroup here at work...here is what one person posted:
You will want some winter (or all season) tires and a scraper at the very least. If you get out of town much you will want to put together a "survival kit". Most of us at least carry jumper cables. Other survival kit items can be blankets, extra hats boots, gloves, scarves, coats, etc, some non-perishable food, water in a container that will not break when frozen. Something to heat with (i.e. candles).
Another good idea is a small shovel and some kittly litter (helps with traction when you get stuck).

All you guys from cold places... I can't see how those parts of the country ever got settled in the first place. Were your ancestors hiding out from something or trying to avoid going to war?
I believe that the best place to live and drive is below the Mason-Dixon line and above the gnat line. If you don't know about gnats and paint ruining "lovebugs", then you just think that ice and cold is a problem.
BTW, since I live in the deep South, I used the lamp rocker switch Trochoid mentions to turn my Bosch driving lights on or off. No need for the redundency of stock wiring scheme down here.

Actually the last week in the Bay Area (Northern California) The temperature has been between 26-36 degrees
Though I doubt there's a need for a winter survival kit here.
But there has been a drastic weather changes happening over the last couple of years. Maybe we need some fellow 7 owner to put there cats back on and cut down on the Global warming
