winter is over the car is loose now..
so i've taken the car out and i've got a few things i didn't get around to fixing back before winter came, first off the tachometer doesn't work, its just dead and i'd just like to know where to start to find that problem some have said its a fuse others said the wire is just disconected i dont know.
next on the list would be the choke, when it starts cold i have to warm it up before driving off or it'll shut off, i guess i just need a new choke but any info on doing any of that? i tihnk thats it besides other average checkups that i'll be doing thanks.
edit:i remember that when driving around or above 55mph if i let off the gas lots of vibration would come from the rear wheels and basically the whole rear end just wondering what that is and how i can fix it up.

Hmm, could be bad rear wheel bearings or locked calipers, maybe. But, only when you let off the gas? Not even while you're driving? Do you get rubbing noises when you put a load (take a turn) onto the rear end?
As per the tachometer, more than likely, it could be a fuse problem. Sometimes if I'm not careful I can bang my knee into the fuse panel and knock out the fuse that controls the tach and a few other gauges. If it's just the tach and the other gauges are fine, *may be* a wiring problem.
It could be a bad choke. A lot of vehicles, as they get older, are cranky when it gets cold out and won't want to move until they're warmed up just right. That's usually normal with most chokes anyways, from what I've been told. If anyone has other info to correct me, go ahead.

I would investigaet the trailing ignition for your tach problem. The tach is signaled off the trailing coil on the 81-85 cars, and the leading on the 79-80 model.I bet the trailing ignition is not working therefore you have no tach.

its not a good thing to drive your car with a cold engine. since the engine is comprised of both aluminum and cast iron, they have different expansion rates and over a period of time of repeated cold driving, it will cause premature wear... as for the choke, we need a little more info. does the motor stall or does the choke just shut off when you take off?
to me it sounds like it may be time to rebuild the carb....its cheap and it never hurts...as long as you do it right

yea the car will just stall if i let off the throttle, usually i dont drive off until the car is warmed up it just takes a few mintues of sitting in the driveway with the throttle on a little, i'll try some of the other things for the tachomete thanks guys.

it could be a number of things...bad gas, clogged filter, weak pump. Drain the old fuel and throw it in your lawn mower or something, or start a fire with it. Fill with fresh gas and see if anything changes. If nothing does change, replace your fuel filter. Check to make sure your plugs aren't fouled out. If all is good check the fuel pressure, if your somewhere around 2.5psi or above your pump is good. If it isn't any of the above, it sounds like your carb is a little gummy and a rebuild is in order. The kits only cost around $40. I belive Black Dragon Automotive has them.
