Windshield trim

Hey, I need to repaint the windshield trim on my car, since a lot of the black flaked off over the years.
What I am wondering, was this trim flat black, semi-gloss black, or just black?
I had one piece that was missing, but have now gotten it, so it's time to refinish the whole set. I cannot for the life of me remember exactly how this trim was, when new. I really want to make my car look as good as it did years ago.
Thanks, Paul

Get the Bumper/Trim black paint from Pep Boys. It's like a satin black and it looks factory. It's one of those little things that'll set you car apart from everyone else's.

Wow, that looks good. Did you use the same stuff on the mirrors?
Will certainly have to look into getting some of that stuff, soon.
BTW, the image only appears occansionally.

Imagestation sucks! Anyways, yes I used them on the mirrors, wipers, windshield trim, door locks (chipping now), intercooler piping...etc. It has a really nice texture.

I was wondering if you're going to take the whole trim off or just mask it off and paint it on the car. The trim on my own car is fading and I'd like to know how other people do it...

Actually, I am thinking about that myself.
Masking it off would not be that hard, but prepping it for paint while not harming the car's finish could be a little tricky. Sand paper or steel wool would likely be more than enough to prep the trim.
On the other hand, removing the trim could damage it, or the retaining clips. VB sells the entire clip set for about $10, so I will likely order it before removing, if I decide to go that route.
I will prolly just mask it off, though.

I took mine off but I was repainting my whole car anyways. The top and bottom peices are almost impossible to remove w/o breaking the clips. I had to practice first at the junkyard

Thanks for the insight. Since my car has already been painted, I will prolly go ahead and mask it off. I would hate to damage the cars finish while removing the trim, and would not to have to keep the car parked for a couple days, while waiting on the trim clip kit. My luck, I would just mess up the refinishing job during the reinstall anyways.

why would you use bumper paint on metal? just use some engine paint..

ive used bumper paint on the mirrors and bumpers ofcourse which works well, but as for the metal trim. im sticking to engine paint, should stick better and last longer.

g'luck!
