Why no first gens with LED's?

These are very bright. A couple of friends really like them, I've never used them. Not sure how it'd look on an older car.
But about Kentetsu's going faster comment, technically they would draw less juice and take load off the alternator, and the alternator would drag a bit less on the engine. Not sure it'd be noticable, but probably measurable.

those suckers look pretty interesting. I read that the fan design allows you to put them through the standard hole. I wonder if that also works in reverse when taking them out? hehe

1hp = 746 watts.
Total draw of all stop, tail, and side-marker lights on an SA =
27+27+8+8+8+8+3.8+3.8+8+8 = 109.6 watts
0.15 horsepower.
Backup lights would add 54 more watts total. 0.072hp
All four turn signals (and their dash indicators) on together add another 114.8 watts - but they're never all on together for long. If they were, 0.153 hp.
Get 'em all lit up at once, it's still just over a third of a horsepower.

Wow, thanks for putting the link in your sig for the HID's. I had no idea this GB was even "possibly" taking place! I think HID headlights will take priority over LED tail lights for me. The last thing I want is to run over some crap on the freeway because I couldn't see it due to my crappy lights.

Plug in LED's are terrible on the RX-7's due to reflector design and position of the LED's on the "bulbs". The 2 ways to get properly functioning LED's for the tail lights would be to build an LED board as stated or using Sylvania's L1224R LED. This LED is used in newer Ford's including the 2010 Mustang. It is actually a reflector based LED vs. directional based. Retrofitting one of these would leave everything appearing stock but still getting the LED benefits. You wouldn't even need to open the tail lights for this. Problem is cost though. The cheapest version I've found of these are about $80 a piece from the Ford Dealership. I plan to eventually try a retrofit in my Turbo II for these and see how they come out.

I didn't really recommend either. I have never used their stuff. I just posted one site that my friends who are into that stuff have ordered from (vleds) and one that I googled that looked cheap and good (superbrightleds)

As with most ultra-cool technology, it should be only a matter of time before aftermarket mfrs clone these beauties for older applications. There are a LOT of hotrodders out there that are begging for this very thing.

i think im gonna order those v star led ones. kinda pricy but i think might work. im already gonna try to gut my housings of the colored lenses. and slightly tint the clear lense so i will need a red and yellow bulb of some kind to keep the color. im just looking for something different that will blend in with my black car but not be too dim
