If it makes you feel better I have had this basic setup on disc from 3yrs ago when I had to do a Auto-Cad project when I was in university.
Honestly though everytime I come up with something in my mind I put it on paper and it seems that someone from over 15yrs ago in Europe put a rack n pinion and all wheel drive in a rally RX7 so I would have to say its hard to be original these days. Dont feel bad buckeroo it will all work out in the end!

Rod Millen built the 4x4 1st gen with rack and pinion steering ... there wasn't a whole lot of standard 1st gen left when he had finished tho'
Rod Millen is from New Zealand and is currently working in California ( I think)
Mazda also built a 4x4 group B 1st gen which was due to replace the old 2wd group B rally car before group B got canned in the mid 80's

Whats happened? All the sudden I ask for confirmation so I know how many to have made up and only 3 of you respond. Is the price not to your liking? If so, lets figure it out. Everything seems to cost more than anticipated these days so we'll talk. K? If you are all waiting to see how it tests out thats fine but I still kinda need to have a fairly accurate idea of what I need to put out$$$. I dont want to be the only one with R&P in this world that would only give me an unfair atvantage so PM me K guys?
Oh ya hurry and get your trany fixed up there AdamAnt! YOU have got some research and development to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No i am definatly still up for this.. but i would like to see it in a working driving car before laying down money.. I would like to hear another persons impression of it.
The price is ok with me, because a new steering box for my SE is almost $600..
So this plus a VW rack would probably be less..
Let me ask though, a reman R&P are ~131.00+46 for the core. But it doesn't come with outer tie rod ends.
If i picked one of those up, i would also need the outer tie rod ends, or are you providing them?

Oh, and i was thinking maybe a power rack with looped wholes would be better, because it would have a faster turning radious.
Oh, and from autozone.com it is 114+50 core.. So a little cheaper
EDIT: autozone.com link doesn't work..but the partsamerica.com one should. but the price is above fyi..

smog nazi destroyer
price definatly sounds resonable.. but i agree with zyounker, that it would be nice to see how it turns out (and how it actually does in action) before tossing down the cash..
so you can through me on the not quite absolutly list.

I'm still in, But like others want to make sure it's going to work.
I can still make them myself if making them thru a fab shop becomes to much of a pain or expensive.

I'd like to see it in a car and working and given the "Rod Test" as you put it earlier... But if it's all good, For $150, Sign me up...
Few reviews from others sweetens the deal, despite my aversion to using first edition products.

I dont expect anyone to put out any $$ until a car with it on has been driven by me and the owner of the car. I mean you guys dont really know me so me telling you specs and shooting my mouth off is not concrete evidence it works the way we want it to. I completely understand , hopefully I will have the complete syetem on my car by tonite then I will post pics.
Conway: Im more excited!!!
Remy: you crazy guy I've yold u 10 time whats needed and no u wont have to lift ur motor.
Iniitab: No im in
Max7: explain what u mean by u can make it yourself if it becomes a pain to fab up. Just checkin.
Pele: read a few posts back it gave a cost breakdown and $150.00 is just not possible in such small numbers. Sorry. And besides once you read reviews were all gonna want one, just imagine like LOTO 649.
Mike: Sorry but ur car will turn the wrong way if u install this kit, unless u learn how to drive it that way. LOL. Maybe if u use a RHD VW rack and i will have to make one to suit ur needs.

J Oliver: If you need another test mule, i could do it.. I will have my car back on the road this week i believe. Just have to finish wiring the haltech. Which only takes an hour.
Oh, and make 2 IC pipes, but that is also easy..
I also have a guy here who has a v8 swap, and we could check fitment and take pics of that too, so other would know if that will work.
Let me know..

so the bracket should fit OK , and if the VW rack mounts are the same RHD - LHD the only thing that would need changing for your kit would be the bearing for the shaft
The aussies seem to be interested too http://ausrotary.dntinternet.com/for...fa3d4944c6cdfc

He would also need to switch the main braket, it has a while the shaft goes though.. shouldnt be hard.. just make it backwards

If you find it hard to find a shop to make them in small batches.
I prefer to buy one from you and just bolt it in, But wanting one so bad I'll make one if I have to
Still getting my vote for RX-7 Mod of the year award

I assume by the feedback you have here, that once these get out, you could make a living off these.

Well I have the bracket by itself all bent up according to the pics and it is installed on the car and the rack still needs to be bolted up which requires me to drill the mounting holes. Looks real good so far. Man is this thing strong, I thought the first one I made months ago was stong and it was only 1/8 plate steel. We are not going to break this thing. Will post pics tommorow cause im tired and in pain.

The problem Pele is that they will probably never come down in price because I will only ever be able to do these in small batchs, I dont want to be stuck with any # of these laying around. Its lost money if no one buys them.
As for a living, I dont think theres that many 1st gens around. It does not seem to be so. Only time will tell.
