I didn't realize it was such a big deal to still have the original keys. Now that I think about it, it has been 20 some odd years, and that is a long *** time to have one or two keys.

I have all 3 keys...the original 2 black keys, and the one long skinny Mazda key that came in the complimentary lockout prevention case. Fits in your wallet cuz its so thin. YAY me, gotta love cars from the family.

My car got broken into and stolen.

Any mazda key would open my doors and then they used a massive hammer and a massive screwdriver and busted my ignition barrel.

So we ended up replacing the doors locks with solex locks. I kept the keys, which aren't original btw. Just for sentimental values.

I thought I had one of the original keys since it had "MAZDA" stamped on it, but I guess not. It has no round or plastic head. Maybe it's the skinny "complimentary lockout key" Cowboyfun mentioned?

My 83 has two keys. This weird? LOL One for the doors and hatch and one for the ignition. The door and hatch key actually has MAZDA stamped on it but I don't know if it's original. I may have to go down to my local Mazda dealer and check out keys.

I have the orignal key for both my 84 gsl and my '79. Also I have the original key chain for the '79 with the mazda rotor symbol on the front and a mailing address on the back.

That's so funny you mentioned that, one of my previous 7s was able to be opened by yet another of my 7's keys!?

I have both original keys for the 7 I now own.

Did you buy it new? If not I suspect that someone replaced the ignition switch from a donor car.
