I really should take the time to advance the timing to paul yaw's specs and replace the stock muffler with something that doesnt have a bunch of holes in it

And then, learning to launch better....
but really I should just shut up about drag and work on driving the auto-x course faster.....

neither is a replacement for real road racing tho... I'd LOVE to start doing that... oye...
too little money, too little time.

Just a cautionary note about the Yaw timing suggestions...

It makes your car rev faster on the low end, but I personally don't like the way it feels at high revs. You can't feel the secondaries come on at all, there's no power surge.

I had my timing set this way (24BTC L 16BTC T) with no vaccuum advance all summer. It caused me nothing but problems. I broke 2 trailing spark plugs, I assume caused by the massive trailing advance. Breaking spark plugs can easily wreck your motor if you're unlucky.

After messing with tons of different settings, I'm now using the Racing Beat recommended settings for mildly modified stock port motors, namely 2BTC L and 19ATC T at idle. They feel the best of any I've tried so far.

Just a warning. Everybody's got their own opinion about what's best, but breaking spark plugs is not cool.

Yeah I broke trailing plugs too! I now have my timing set at 20L/10T at full advance (set timing with revs over 4k). I couldn't find any porcelain chunks so it had to have gone through the engine! Sure way to wreck a housing... (crosses fingers)

Max7 yeah YOU can get in the 14's with a stock block, sure, but us 12A folks will have a lil' harder time doing it.

Hey Speckamp... what RPM do you shift at? Try short-shifting it...

Yeah, breaking spark plugs is bad... But I can't feel my secondaries come on right now either.

Probably because I don't have any... this being a fuel injected 13B powered beast

I figure I'll advance the timing a little and see what that does. David Disney says about 5-10* advance... tho he's running 9psi of boost, so I can prolly get away with a little more.

the charcoal canister blocks half of the carb entry. Ditch it!
Is it safe to do that i always wondered if you could, cause that thing big and ugly.

My clucht slips so bad i cant use 5th gear(slips too much it wont catch). And when i mash it in 3rd it smells like kentuky fried clutch too.

A got a question is there really going to be a noticible differece in takeoff/accerleration if i get a Racing Beat Race/Street or Centerforce Stage 2 than a new stock clutch. What about durability wise?

While im replacing the clutch i was thinking about getting a new light wieght flywheel. I am going to stall all the time with my massive 135hp.(is it going to make the car slower).

The 79-80 charcoal canister is part of the air cleaner, its a different design from the later models. I'd leave yours on.

More track news.... Something's Wrong.

Pulled a whopping 16.5 @ 82 today during time trials. I figured it was because I screwed up the launch so I dialed-in a 15.9 (typical dialin when running thru headers). The 82mph, though, should have had me worried, but...

Lemme tell ya, don't bother going drag racing when you're coming down with something and feeling woozy as hell. I could barely walk or push the clutch down all night. Remember that 15.9 dialin? Well I bogged the launch again big-time, and totally screwed up the 1-2 shift... if ya can't find 'em, grind 'em! I'm sure everyone in the stands heard it too. After thus totally obliterating 2nd gear, I was able to limp it in to an astounding 16.98 at some pathetic MPH. Didn't win.

Besides that, the car just plain feels weak. Something's definitely wrong.

I haven't broken my Trailing plugs yet, but I'll keep an eye on them. Hmm, now that I have over 100 miles on DLIDFIS since the last time I cleaned my plugs, I ought to look at them.

The "emissions" sticker under my hood suggests 5*ATDC L and 15*ATDC T at idle or 800RPM I think (maybe 700RPM?). That gives me a 10* L/T split and also causes my idle timing to be at or near 5* L if my dizzy was set at 4000RPM to 24* or 25*L.

I have a question for all you people who mess with their timing:

Will my Trailing plugs break using these stock factory settings even though I'm not using the stock plugs or the old points dizzy? (I'm using BR8EQ-14 plugs and an '81-'85 dizzy with DLIDFIS).
