White Trash rides again

It was a very Zen kinda day at the track. There were the bad parts - the place was flooded with slick-tire cars because of some big event this weekend, and LOTS of people broke. There were at least 6 delays (YES 6) where they had to scrub down and clean up the track. One blowup was really bad, covered the entire lane with ATF. Most of the time was spent milling around, bench racing, seeing interesting stuff.

Which brings to the good part.

My first run was a typical blow-off run to get me re-acquainted with the track, so I ran thru the muffler. BIG smoky burnout. 3500 launch. Bog city! I managed a 16.3 and some low MPH - but I didn't miss any shifts and the clutch seemed tight tonight, so i must be actually OVERFUELING the car. Cool. I pulled back in the pits, yanked the dump cap off, and hung out waiting for the call. At this point the track was FULL of slick tire cars (they run us in two classes, slick and DOT, in rounds) so it was do-nothing time. I snugged up my engine torque brace that I made this week (ah! another secret) and hung out. That's when I saw IT. A bright orange RX-3. I talked to the guy, and in somewhat broken English he said it was a stock port 13B running a 75-shot. Somewhat disappointed, I took tons of pics of a killer looking RX-3. Milled around, BS'ed with other racers, grabbed a racer steak (hot dogs), and then I heard it. High pitched, tinny... brapbrapbrapbrapbrapbrap... STOCK PORT MY A@@!! I saw him run... incredible wheelstand (And I thought MY car was loud... OUCH!!!), missed 1-2 badly, ran 13.5 or something. The Buschur TalonFromHell was there too but he was having bad problems keeping the plugs clear at the starting line. Then they finally called us, and we went up. And people started breaking. Over and over and over.

It got very clear to me that I was only going to get one more run that night, so I'd better make it count. I played with idle settings until throttle response was crisp, double checked my engine brace, made sure my rear tires had 20psi, kept the engine warm by starting it every 1/2 hour (it sounds SO bridge port when on choke and through the dump!) and went way back to check out the RX-3 in the pits. They were messing around with adjustments and had it running. It had a Holley carb on a RB intake, so it wasn't a PP. They said it was a "twin turbo" trans and they shifted at 8000 but it was getting really hard to shift. I saw that it ws idling at 2100. Bridge ports are the coolest sounding engines, bar none. Finally they got us running again (for the 3rd time) and I was up. The car was a just-below operating temp. I kept telling myself, "Do NOT screw the launch. Do NOT screw the launch. There's tons of traction. Only one shot. Do NOT screw the launch".

I did a huge, massive, bouncing off the rev limiter, getting completely sideways, mushroom cloud producing burnout in 2nd gear. (It's cool when the tach points straight down. ) Kept the revs up to 3k, on the second yellow light I punched it, flashed to 5-6k and dumped the clutch on the third. PERFECT launch - no bog, no tire slip, just clutch slip. 8,000 already - BANG, perfect shift, no slip at ALL. 8000 already! BANG, perfect shift. 7500 already! Mush, mush, CRAP! BANG, finally got it in 4th. Through the lights and it's over. (Results in the signature... )

Ran back to the stands just in time to see the RX-3 make its final run. No mistakes this time. 12.22. *YEAH*.

I'm SO stoked. (Yes I used that word)

I made up this page - http://www.geocities.com/izzmus/about.html - and I submitted it to RX-7.com! I'm going to be the ONLY 12A on their fastest RX-7's list!

Heck I probably have the fastest all-motor, stock carb RX-7 out there.

It's the chemical lightening, ya that's got to be it.

SWEET! Man you sure do love this!
Congrats on the time, man I can't wait till next year when I have a car I can run again without breaking, and hopefully beat my time that I've got on the RX7.com webpage.

I can only imagine what the beast will be like with all winter to tinker on it, hehe
