I don't doubt it. The numbers i posted are for stock only. Anything else is a different story.

I kick my cars ***. I am gonna be pretty blunt about it. I drive it like i hate it and i drive 45 minutes into town and the same distance back everyday. This car sees a lot of country roads and drifts a lot. Donuts and just plain showboating are also seen a lot in this car. I have an RX-7 and even though i love to keep it looking nice and such, cars are meant to be driven. And i drive my car like an RX-7 should be driven.
As for mileage on my car it has 86k.
Yeah, same here, except I dont drive it like I hate it . Im just what most would consider to be hard on it, but its all with plenty of love . "I enjoy my car" is a better way to put it . Although, I do have a blown engine, maybe that should say something. On the other hand, the engine has about 200K on it, and the throttle did stick on me for a while at WOT the night it blew because my throttle cable jammed...

eesh. Yeah i definetely don't hate my car. For lack of a better word at 2:15 am; i LOVE my car.
I am actually pretty hypocritical when it comes to my car. I drive the hell out of it for 45 minutes. Come home and park it in teh shop and wash it all out and wipe it down and vacuum it out.

In the BS box...

I normally shift like everyone else at 4500 or so. When I have to, I'll take it to 7200 or so....the carcass '80 with the RP streetport could go to 8500 rpm, no sweat. It did eat two distributors with those shenanigans, though. It also showed making power at 7600 rpm and climbing on dyno day at Alamo Autosports, so it wasn't wasting HP....poor carcass...

I shift usually at 3000. Sometimes 2000-2500, and even more rarely up to 4000 if I'm in a big hurry.
Why don't you drive a family station wagon?

You really need to try out 7 grand on a daily basis...she wants it bad...

I've been thinking about this some more... I had to limit myself to 4k when I got the new engine (last one replaced by previous owner from overheating)....

Limiting myself to 4k was pure hell... How the hell can you drive an RX-7 and keep it under 4k most of the time???? This is making me mad.... Sell that thing to someone who is going to drive it like it wants to be driven... You are wasting it.

Yea, I don't even look at the tach sometimes, just wait until she tells you to shift, then maybe you shift if it's convenient....Buzzzzzzzzz

1) I don't think hitting 8 grand for a second before shifting wears a rotary to any degree worth thinking about.

2) Even if it does, it's not worth worrying about. I've heard too many people who have engines with over 150k that rev high all the time and recommend it.

3) I don't care if the power ends at 6k, I just like to keep going and use all of the gear.

4) If you are not reving high you are not living.

The road on my drive to work........reminds me of a lap on the Laguna Seca track.

Just TRY to drive slow on it......

I don't shift until the car says "Alert, Alert, Danger Will Robinson!"

That seems like an interesting idea now that my brain is working. I'd like a new noise, instead of that BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

A nice calm robotic woman's voice saying.......Shift.......would be better.

Get that whine looked after- otherwise you'll regret it.

Maybe you are not serious, but that is a great idea... Where is that buzzer? Probably behind the dash and inaccessable....but if it is, you could probably hook up anything that is 12 volt...

Normally I like to shift right around 6. When I first got my 7 about 4 months ago I didn't know where to shift everyone who had never driven an RX-7 or rotary engine for that matter said shift at 3-4.5. I soon found out that this wasn't any fun. So I hopped on the forum to see what everyone had to say but they all said huge numbers (7+), but on my stock RX-7 I didn't have the guts to go much farther then when the little buzzer came on to tell me to ease up. After some experimenting (and some failure at the drag strip) I found the optimum shift point ~6 grand, less and you're not at peak power and more you're just revving higher. For casual driving i'd say 4-5 is pretty conservative.

hey i have an AUTO (nearly half way to getting all the parts converting it to 5speed)

but at the mean time.. it never really goes above 2k-2.5k it shifts automatically and keeps it below..does this mean its real bad?

it goes to around 6-7k if i floor it.. and it keeps going higher and higher until its too fast and i have to step on the breaks yo..

and yeh im not joking i really do have an auto
