What's it Worth? GSL-SE

Ok, this is kind of a long story but probably not, only because I'm typing it makes it long, hehe.

Before I bought my first Rx7 GSL, the same day I stumbled upon a 1985 GSL-SE. This SE is in a Salvage Yard but he will not allow you to touch it. It's ONLY For Sale not for parts is what he say's. The Engine is Shot, But the body does not have ONE Blemish. I mean nothing on the body has even a dimple of a dent. NO rust (Georgia), I'm wanting to take my interior out of my GSL and put it inside this SE. The SE has original Rims but NO tires.

The guy tells me he wants 1500.00 for it. I LAUGH at him and said I was thinking more like 500.00

He goes NoWay will he sell it for 500.00 and say's 1000.00

I tell him, my wife will not allow me to go more than 800.00 and he told me he could not go any lower than 900.00.

Now here's the catch. The guy that showed me the SE said 6 months ago he told him that he could have it for 600.00.

THAT Pissed me off and I told the guy, He can HAVE The SE and I wasn't going to pay him the 900.00. AT THAT Moment he's talking with his friend saying, Should I take the 800.00? I tell him to forget it, and walk out.

2 months later...................

I'm in the Same salvage yard as the SE again, but the owner isn't around, I see the SE and I'm telling you, I'm in LOVE With it.

The body is soooo nice.

I go home and talk with my wife and she gives me the OK to buy it.

I'm prepared to offer the guy 800.00 again for the car. My QUESTION is...................

If he doesn't take it. Should I go up or just say Screw it?

Thanks

If the body is in super duper shape, I think it could be worth the 1000.00.

That depends on what you want to do with it; ghetto 12a carb swapout just to get it running, or SE rebuild and restore?

If it were me (and it once was...), I would look at the SE as a diamond in the rough just waiting for the right ENTHUSIAST to buy it and restore it to it's days of glory. But, hey, that's just me. There are plenty of guys out there who have bought SE's for the suspension and brakes upgrades, and put whatever ratty, trashy motor they had laying around into it - including small-block V8's.

That's not my style, but I'm a purist. At $1000, any SE that can be made to run through a $1500 engine rebuild and function as a daily driver/rolling restoration is worth it.

The SE is a lot of extra equipment that would cost you a pretty penny to add in aftermarket, and was the pinnacle of the 1st Gen design. The 2nd Gen cars use a lot of the same design elements and engine enhancements because it was proven on the SE drivetrain and chassis. JMTC, good luck,
