Whats "under 20"? I don't know what my car did, but from my reading, I've found that anything between 15 and 20 in the city is expected, even in stock form. But I think around 18 in the city should be good.

Well, I have owned a lot of rotaries in the last 25 years, and have a lot of friends who have also. Based on what I know, I think you are going to be really disappointed when you get to the bottom of that hill.

20-22MPG around town, depending on how much I hit the hiway to go across town.
I got an average of 25.5MPG on a road trip to DFW earlier this year. Will soon make the trip again, and will certainly be interested in the results.

I get about 17-18mpg mixed city/hwy driving with my stock 83 GSL
I could probably get about 20mpg if I could manage to keep my foot outta it and stop the secondaries from opening, but what fun would that be

Yeah, 29mpg is possible. BUT, I was only able to achieve that once- a result of driving 55-60mph for a 150mile drive purposely to see how good the car could get. That was all stock- cats/airpump/etc. I was getting passed a lot, and I felt like it took twice as long as it should take to drive that far. This doesn't reflect realistic use though-all highway is not what people do unless they live in the countryside- or making a road trip through many states- in which case a airplane trip would be almost cheaper-a lot faster.

well it is another one of these threads lol but any way here are some recent updates on my trip from ATL to Macon and back
Going down there took 1/4 tank. coming back was about 1/3 of a tank or more. Why the difference? Well i did take the car up to 95mph going up hill from 475 75 on the connection there. Traffice was a bit worse. Also going down there I stayed at about 3.5rpm... seem to be ideal for the 83 GS between 3 and 3.5k rpm.. that gets you 65 to 75mph. anything over that it seems to just drink gas. Everything is stock but have a cat on it now. last i tested a mix of Hwy and city driving got me about 22mpg. So if you want good mpg dont drive like a bat out of hell. Don't take off in first gear to 7k rpm and then take 2nd to 7k rpm. Shifting around 3-4k rpm seems to be best from what i have tried. as hard as it is to do... baby it and you get good gas. keep it tooned and you get good gas. port it out, turbo, 4 barrel card, you will not get good gas. just facts from what i have read on boards.

I haven't burned a whole tank in years because of just cranking and tuning and getting my cologne fix without actually going anywhere. And backing it out to wash it while it's running to keep the battery charged. I was getting close to 20 last long road trip with same setup. Probably alot worse in town because I can't keep my foot out of it.
