What's a good set of springs-shocks?
like the title says. I need a set of them both but don't want to spend 1000 bucks.
So what combo do you have and what do you recomend?

I'm interested in this, too.
To get insurance for the car that I bought, I need to replace the ghetto-shortened springs with normal ones.
I don't race. I don't expect to go over about 70 mph. I don't need awesome handling. What are the cheapest springs that I could use?
I was quoted $NZ420 ($US170) for a set of Cobra springs, but I'd like something cheaper. Any ideas?
And are the Cobra ones any good?

King springs?? I think those are the same ones AJC13B has. I like how the car looks. Do you know the name of the company that makes them. I like how my car looks now with a set of cut springs but the ride is a little on the rough side. And would like to see how much of a drop they provide. The ones i got now are like 3 inches shorter that the factory ones, so i figured between 1 and 2 inches should be fine.

i'm running eibach springs and tokico hp shocks. it cost waaaaay under the $1000 limit you've set. corners like a tron lightcycle. it's a little stiff depending on where you live. when i lived in florida, it was perfect. up here in indiana, its a little rough. i've also heard good things about racing beat's springs. if you want adjustability, you could also use the tokico illuminas instead. take a peek at the mazdatrix website or racing beat's site for prices. i'm sure someone here knows somewhere to get this setup even cheaper.

I've heard good things about Shox.com They will match anyone elses prices on shocks, springs sway bars etc... Doesn't seem like a bad deal to me.

Tokico Illuminas (5 levels of adjustment) seem to get the nod from the autocross it - and - drive it to work crowd, because non-adjustable gas shocks are kinda harsh on the street.
Spring choice is "spring rate" and "ride height." A strict autocrosser can have constant high spring rates, but if you have a dual-purpose car you'd probably be happier with variable-rate springs.
A low "ride height" is good for looks and performance/ cornering, but it can also be a factor in what tire sizes you want to run... gotta have enough clearance, eh!

Well this car is going to be a toy, not a daily driver. I'd like it to sit lower, (~1") have a more solid feel like a go cart and handle like a bastard. Riding like a Caddy isn't what I'm looking for. So I guess if gas shocks are firmer than the adj I'd probably go with those (since I already have a set for the rear off the parts car
).
Now for springs, what do you guys recomend?

if you want stiff springs, definitely go with the eibach's. they'll also drop the car 1/2" to 1". and adjustables would handle better, they're *adjustable*. the hp's like i have only come in one setting..... tooth rattler. and it really does handle like a go kart

Well I think that shox.com place has to be the best, checked them out and got my quotes back and it's looking good. Now I just talked to a friend and said I should look in to the tokico illumina's for the adjustability.
Anyone out there that have these on there car? Do you like them?

if i had to do it over again, i'd get the illuminas. but then again, i take road trips now and then too, and it'd be nice to soften the ride. if you're racing, i'm sure the adj. will come in handy too

It seems like many people who put ~1" lowering springs on their car complain that the car actually sits higher. The newest 1st-gens are 16 years old, and the original springs will have sagged a good amount by now.
