Is "racing" oil the same as a "3/4" race cam?

That's just single-viscosity oil. Had an old '51 Ford PU that used straight non-detergent 30 weight, not much racing going on there, hahahaha. Synthetic oil turning to plastic goo? I doubt it, since "synthetic" oil is just petroleum-based oil that has been engineered so that harmful non-lubricative molecules are kept to a minimum, which usually results in a cleaner burning, more effective oil. 10W-30 is useful for winter use because the oil pressure rises more quickly, although it does help the engine turn over a bit easier. In regular non-synthetic oils, I like Valvoline 20W-50 a lot.
But, the Amsoil synthetic has been proven to actually increase horsepower, and that is really it's most compelling quality. I might add that I use Amsoil 75W-90 in the transmission and differential and it really makes a noticeable difference, especially as far as smooth shifting goes. My RX4 had a rather "scritchy" 3rd gear synchro which was virtually "cured" after I changed the transmission oil to Amsoil. It was pretty bad before, I would miss the critical 2nd to 3rd gear shift and look like an idiot. After changing to Amsoil, it took a couple of weeks before I noticed I was hitting the shift better, then after a few months, the problem was almost non-existent. I just wanted to share this information, I do not work for or sell Amsoil! -Mike
