Whats an '83 worth???

An auto dealer friend just called to tell me that he had another customer come in with an RX7 for repairs. He told her the car wasn't worth fixing and called me to contact her with an offer. White car no rust, under floor solid not crusty. Gas tank leaks ( seeps). All exhaust shot. No bodyrot to speak of..Tires ok but nothing great about them. I figured $ 500 max...OPINIONS?

I paid $500 for mine. Farily decent condition. 155k miles. Virtually no rust. (no rust in the bins or wells)

Was in storage off and on for a couple of years, when I went to see her first, she started right up and ran fan. Is rough at warm up, but I figure carb could use a rebuild and get rid of the nasty gutted cats.

Overall, I paid $500 for a very reliable car. More reliable than most cars I have driven. Everyone who has cheap eco cars that are only 5-10 years old are afraid to drive them on any long distance trips. I drove my baby cross country without a hitch.

I guess it all depends on how much you want to spend on one. I've been offered 3k for my car. My bro has an 84 GSL and paid 3k and his is in near mint condition. Just depends on where you live and who you buy it from.

Well I can say that it starts and runs fine as my friends service dept has maintained this car since new. Burns no oil, mileage may be about 85000 miles. Nice upholstery. Just needs a gas tank ( have one in he barn) and complete exhaust. i paid $500 for our '85 and the '79 was free. It appears that most of you guys buy these cars pretty cheaply so thought I'd get a few opinions before I make an offer. Starts easily...

Damn, BigJim beat me to it. It should burn oil if it is working correctly. I still don't see why it isn't worth fixing. From your description it sounds like a crooked mechanic to me if the only thing wrong is the gas tank.

To elaborate a bit more ...I should have seen NO VISIBLE SMOKE..A puff at start up is all. Smog regs here are not enforced on older cars... Today in the morning paper there is an '82, new tires and paint for $995 and its advertised as a 5 speed..good body...
