What would be a reasonable price to sell a mint 84 RX7 with only 31,000 miles
Hi. I am the original owner of a 1984 RX 7 GSL car that is in mint condition. This was always our "extra car." After the kids came along, this 2-seater became our garage puppy that only was driven occasionally. The exterior paint and leather interior is in excellent condition and only has 31,000 original miles on it.
It still runs like a dream. We never considered selling it until now, as we have three other vehicles What do you think would be a reasonable price to ask for this?

We need pics to really say, but 2k up to about 5k is the ball park. The higher you want the longer it will take to sale.
the bad part about it is, The 84 GSL was not a unique car in any way. Might I suggest you keep it. I bet the kids will be gone soon and you may find that it is fun to take on road trips.

Suppose you go out into today's market and look at 2 seat hard top sports cars, good body and interior condition and only 31,000 miles - you will be looking at 2 year old cars, priced from $20,000 and up, mostly up. If your 21 year old GSL has always been garaged, has nice paint and interior and is mechanically good, and really has only 31k miles, it is indeed very unique, in spite of what the previous reply says, and it is a bargain for someone at $5,000. Somewhere out there is someone who really will appreciate what you have. The problem is to find that person. Unfortunately, almost everyone who is looking at these older cars is looking for a cheap car and you may not get what it is worth.
I agree that you should think long and hard before you sell it. You will someday wish you had it back, and you will not likely find a similar deal. I just happen to have two very nice 1984 GSLs. Hey, I am a batchelor with 4 cars, and I don't need both RX-7s, but I have not sold either because I cannot get what they are worth to me.
How many years until the first kid finishes high school? I am still pissed off at my relatives who sold my grandmother's 37 Ford for $150 when I was 15 years old, and they have all been dead for 35 years!
If you must sell, take your time and start at $5k, don't take less than 4k.

I think it will be hard to find a buyer that is willing to spend more than 5k. One of the main selling points (for me at least) was that it's cheap and fun. You can buy a whole lot more car for 5k, no offense to your low mileage beaut.
Besides, what everyone says is true. Do yourself a favor and don't sell it. You'll kick yourself one day when you miss it!

Betsy,
I would tend to agree: certainly no less than $5,000 if it is truly "mint" as you describe. Take your time in selling it and you will get more.
Personally, I would keep it. These cars are getting tough to find in low mileage original condition. While originally not a rare car, most have rusted away or were junked when their engine's went out. A couple years ago it seemed you couldn't get anything for them, but the ones in top condition are going up in value.
If you have a place to store it, do some research on how to properly store it, and put it away for a few years.
Good luck!

Considered just as transportation, I figure a car has about 100,000 miles of service, so a car with 31k still has 69% of it's service life left, and at an original sale price of $14,000 that makes it worth just under $10,000.

Betsy, I've followed the value of low mile 1st gens a lot this year. A HUGE factor is if it's a 5 speed or an automatic; The 5 speed has much greater value. Also, color can be a factor (brown and tan always have lower interest). On ebay, you can expect to get $4200 to $4500 if it's a 5 speed; I've seen them go up to $5200 if you have the right motivated buyer and use something like TraderOnline. Good luck!

Keep it for the kids! Or, for that matter keep it for yourself...
You will never get what it is really worth, and I am sure that if you sell it now, you will regret it once that money is spent.

Bliffle, I think your method is out of date ![Big Grin](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I don't think many people would pay 10 large for ANY first gen.
That and you have to figure for inflation. The original asking price of 14K was in the early 80's. The Mustangs sold for the same price, if I'm not mistaken. Therefore, with inflation, FB's are 20-30 thousand dollar cars. . . .

I was willing to pay 25k for the 67 cosmo 110ls that was on ebay but I found out too late.
If the car was mine I'd keep it because the market isn't high enough, yet. If it's driven only occasionally just add 10 oz of MMO or 2-cycle to every tank and put a car cover over it (even in the garage).
