Dragged home a new parts car today. Check out the option list.

84 model, 13B 5spd trannny. Power windows, power steering, air conditioning, sun/moonroof, CLOTH INTERIOR, DRUM BRAKE REAR END AND 13 SMALL BOLT PATTERN WHEELS. What the heck is this? I haven't run the VIN number on it yet, but it has all the fun features of a GSL-SE, but the plain stuff of a base model.

Any ideas???

Sounds like you got a gsl that someone put a 13b and drum rear end in. None of the base models came with a sunroof or power windows. Only base models came with rear drums. Only GSL-SE's came with 13b's but they have 14" wheels and different bolt pattern.

P/S (and I think power windows) only came on GSL and GSL-SE, but THOSE only came with rear disc brakes. Any car could have had sunroof and cloth interior. What kind of center console does it have... does it have a double-DIN radio/cassette/equalizer or does it have two separate units spread way apart from each other? Does it have electronic heater controls or does it have sliders?

I just found an article that said any '84 could have P/S, but a Car and Driver road test at the time specifically said that P/S was only for the GSL and -SE.

Check the VIN! The 8th digit will be a 1 if it was a 12A car, 2 if it was a 13B. So it would go JM1FB33(1/2)xE0xxxxxx where the first x is a checksum and the last six are the car's actual number. The E means it's an '84 car, so if it's something different you go up or down. (F is '85, D is '83, etc.)

GS is GSL wihtout the LSD and discs, isn't it?

I agree, it probably is some mutt compilation of parts, but all the emission stuff is there, couldn't see doing a swap and transferring all of that. Nobody swapped the LSD after the wreck, it is part of the damage and sticking out the side about 5 inches (ouch!). I'll decode it this week and see if the engine matches the VIN. Doesn't really matter what it is, it has the parts I need/want, so I'm happy with my purchase Just thought I'd ask the gang if they'd seen a car with thoes features.
