What Is This Thing For?? *Pic*
Hey guys,
The purpose of this thread is pretty self explanatory. What is this little silver thing for? I am running an emissionless setup on my car, so can I remove this thing? What is its purpose? Waiting with much anticipation.....

That little silver thing on top of that inspection plate with the wire coming off it? I don't know what the hell that is either. I never installed it on my new motor and havent missed it.............

It might be one of those things that pop out when it's done.
Has that engine been used as a boat anchor in salt water before ? It might be a barnacle or zebra mussel or bearded clam. Be careful removing it.
Why do you want to remove it ? I can't tell the position of your picture either.

A small price to pay for such significant weight reduction, I bet you'll be able to scratch third without that thing...............
Or you could keep it and fill it with NAAWWZZZZZ

It also somehow ( patent-applied-for proprietary info ) reduces the parasitic loss from your Speedo cable... inversely adding measurable torque to your wheels.
HORSES AND TORQUE AND RESPONSE... OH MY !!!

Ok, so we've had quite a bit of input, but after all the jokes and suggestions I am still at square one. Do I need this thing? What is going to happen if I take it off? Is my tach gonna jump around like crazy?
I want to take every single thing out of the engine bay possible. Not so much for weight, but just to keep things clean and simple. To all you jokesters, I realize that removing this isn't going to make my car any faster. I just hate having everything look clutttered in there. Nothing's better than a clean engine bay.

It is what they say. I dont have mine in either car IIRC and no problems. You could always save it and put it back on later if you need to. It might be for RFI suppression so you dont get static on your radio. I dont have a radio in either car so not sure if that affects the function or not.

Seriously, mine is long gone. No jumping tach and no radio interference ( use good plug wires, though ). Like Carl and Ian say, just take it off and save it. I bet you'll never put it back on, though.

I thought that sucked in the residual electric charge from the the ignition. Seems to me this would better help the coils to charge when they were s'possta, etc.

There are two separate condensors in the engine bay. One is on the distributor and it is for the ignition system. The one that you guys are refering to is actually connected to the oil pressure gauge. Mine is no longer connected either because the wire to the condensor broke. I have not noticed any ill effects from having it disconnected.
