What are these relays(??) for?

I don't have any pictures right now, but the ones that i'm refereing too are by the Driver side strut tower, inbetween the tower and the firewall mounted on the fender area. I'll try to post up some pictures. I was just curious because If I don't need them they'll be taken out ... thanks

There are three mounted on a rail attached to the inner fender just before the strut tower. They are the hot start assist, AC and AT relays. Thats a great place to mount a 2G coil BTW.

I have looked over the wiring harness several times and walked through the FSM and I cant really tell what the one by the battery does I disconnect it nothing I connect it nothing so im not really sure. the one labled dioed was probably replaced unit at some point if you look at the FSM one goes to the ACV on the GSL-SE and the other one i cant remember its in the FSM though.

I think my SE has more than 3 plugs goings to seeminly nothing. Since I don't know **** about cars, I thought maybe these plugs were for diagnostics pre OBDII
LOL

So, since my current efforts are to restore the engine bay to a clean and new look, I'd really like to get an idea of what can be removed so that I don't waste time replacing worthless wiring. I'll post some pics as soon as I get some of them identified.

The diode and the relayy by the battery are FB related I think. I have an SA so I'm clueless to help you id those. Go to Trochoids' sig and download the 84 wiring manual and have a look. It probably will tell you. I've heard of that relay by the battery but I can't remember what it was for. Sorry.

Now you have pics I see you do have 2G coil. I was going to mount mine that way but then I rearranged and removed some of these relays and hung it sideways from that rail thats at the top of the first picture with the spark plug wire sockets facing forward towards the strut tower. Someday I'll get a picture up on here.

The one down by the headlight is the infamous oscillator, the one that can make the horrendous screeching noise in damp cold weather. I think it is part of some warning system, but nobody on this forum seems to know exactly what it does and many recommend just unhooking it if you get the screeching problem.

I still think it must be good for something and I have discovered that you can plug it back in after even a serious screeching episode and the screeching doesn't come back, at least until another combination of damp cool weather and some other unknowns, probably related to the phase of the moon.

just wanted to post on here that the one that says diode, is AC related only. The yellow wire that comes off the firewall goes directly in there, I have a picture attached of the wire that I'm talking about.

Ignore the comment on that picture for this thread. I just wanted to finish it

Fusible Link?

Is this blue section part of the fusible link as well as the red section or is that some other crap? From research, I've concluded at least the red part is fusible link, correct?

I want to get rid of every wire (going wifi! lol). Seriously though, I want to get rid of every wire possible or redo and hide. I'm working towards the 2nd Gen (86-88) Alternator/Fuse Box swap and need to determine what to remove or rather determine what constitutes a fusible link in its entirety. Further, I then need to figure out what I removed as I obviously have to replace it with something. =)

The red part is yes ...the blue part look like someone added previously to the car. Might of been part of an ignition mod or something. Are you planning on moving the battery to behind the passenger seat? And also are you planning on keeping the AC in the car? If yes to the first question and no to the second, then where those 2 wires come out in my last picture, is a perfect candidate spot for getting the wires through there.

At current, I'm leaving the battery where it is. I do have MSD Blaster Coils though I didn't install them and don't know all what was installed. The inside of the hood has an attention to smog people noting the legality of the Blasters and refers to them as type 2, 2f, or 3. I guess it's a generic label.

As for the A/C, well, I just figured out the other day that the parts were still there. When I bought the car in the early 90's, I knew it had an A/C button but it never blew cold. I was poor and didn't know I could just get it charged. So basically, I'm kind of looking forward to seeing if works.
