What T2 trans goes in a FB better, 87-88 or 89-91?
Are all T2 transmissions the same on the outside? I know I have to take the shifter housing off my n/a trans and put it on the T2 and I also know that it will fit on the 87-88 ones but will it fit on the 89-91 ones?
Anyone out there put a T2 trans in a FB?

I have a T2 tranny that is going into my FB, I believe you can use any of the second gen trannies.. You just have to change the shifter linkage & make a spacer for the tranny cross-member.
Also I believe you have to run a different flywheel.. I don't know because i am running a TII engine...

look at the OMP and look for wires comming out of it. 89+ have electronic omp, the older ones just have the rod that goes to the throttle body.
So you got the engine and trans out of the same car then?

Does anyone know if a TII tranny will fit an SA? My guess to making it fit involves using an FB shifter housing on the TII tranny and shorten it so the rear bolts go into the front holes. That shortens it by 3 or 4 inches. Probably enough to fit it in an SA or older rotary cars.
Who out there thinks it will work?

Well, there are lots of people running FB trannies in r100s RX-2s, Rx-3..... So i would think it would work.. There would probably be a little bit of modifications to get it in.. You might have to chop up the shifting tunnel to get it in.. and of course get a custom driveshaft made..
BTW if anyone wants to give me a RX-3 SP to test my tranny in an older rotary i am game

I have a S4 (2nd Gen) box in my 85 first gen and its on a JC Cosmo 13B with an RE Amemiya clutch and flywheel
The tunnel hasn't been touched. All that was done was to use the FACTORY extension housing from an 85 gearbox and put it on the back.

I doubt its a N/A tranny in there, with that much HP and the beefier rear he put in, he would have to drive VERY carefully, hehe

Im trying to figure out how to mount the TII tranny right now. The mounts are a lot different and the 12a trannys mount will not simply bolt up to the TII tranny. Does anybody have any pics or can explain how to get the tranny to bolt up? I dont mind modifing stuff but if there is an easier way then I would like to try that first.

What would be a sweeter deal would be pre-made driveshafts for the swap... it's fairly easy to modify the floor or the crossmember but most of us can't make our own driveshafts. In fact that's pretty much the only thing holding me back from doing a T2 trans swap.
...and the T2 trans swap is the only thing holding me back from better induction so I can make over 150hp... (cough cough 45DCOE cough cough) 150hp is kinda pushing it for a stock trans that gets regular dragstrip abuse.
What would be sweet would be if it had standard American sized U-joints... bigger/stronger, plus Granny's Speed Shop makes adapters to mount them up to the late-type "big flange" rearends. (For big power you should at least be using a '84-85 rear anyway, 'cos they're the strongest)

Thanks AJC13B, I'd really appreciate it if we could see what this looks like. Having a hard time picturing what the trans mount should look like in my mind.
