I'll have to look for that next time I'm bored and have a phillips head screwdriver in my hand. Thanks for the picture, now I know what it looks like. You don't remember what the bulb part number would be, do you?

Not a chance...I've had these bulbs for 20 years LOL I think they are called wheat bulbs and you can probably get them at your nearest electronics supply store. But it would be a lot easier to just get a replacement from Mazda. I would bet that it comes as an assembly, complete with the bulb mounted in the rubber holder and wires back to the connector in the center of the door.

I just like fixing stuff whenever I can instead of buying new.

you are correct except that the light above the ignition switch will light up when the handle is pulled up as well. you do not have to open the door for it to illuminate.

when the door is locked, lift up handle and the door cylinder AND the ignition switch light are supposed to illuminate simultaneously

I already said previously that I've tried that and it doesn't work. Could be a fault in that item we were talking about before.

Thanks for the picture Rich, but you are making my life miserable. Now I see that not only is there a light under the key flap, it's also GREEN!. Now where in the hell am I going to get a bulb that fits in there that's green?? If Mazda doesn't have these, I may come knocking on your door!

Maybe an LED would work instead ? Just an idea. You can get those in lots of colors.

Actually it's a soft green "sleeve" that fits over the bulb, so remove it from the old bulb, slip it on the new bulb...done! Just be careful with it, it's easily torn.
