I know of grannys swap kit....but I don't want to have as much in the rear end as the entire car...
But I am in need of something, with both wheels spinning, and I'm thinking about just biting the bulllet now instead of possibly going through more factory rears.
Are the FC rear pumpkins or anything swappable into FB housings? I know I have solid rear/FC's are IRS, but still, not sure.
Thanks
Matt

FC rear is not worth the hassle... it is even worse than the FB suspension. The route I'm going is getting an 8.8 from a late 90's explorer. They are 31 spline and LSD, and can be had for around $150 or less around here. The Explorer diff is offset, but it won't really matter since you'll need to narrow the axle anyways. Just narrow the longer side first. Then just get the Granny's bracket kit for $345 and start welding... $500 and a few hours later, you'll have a bullet proof rear.

Yeah, I found an exploder rear locally for $200obo.
How wide does the rear end need to be? And how wide is the factory rear?
What are you doing about axles once you shorten the housing?

I'm not exactly sure on the measurements as I am still a good ways out on doing the rear, but Granny's has some good instructions on their website for installing their bracket kits, including narrowing the housing. As for the axles any competent machine shop should be able to shorten and re-spline them, or Moser will make custom axles in whatever length you'd like for some $$$.

The only thing that troubles me is that if such fabrication needs to take place, why not start with a better base platform to begin with?

I look at it as, its the same width of the fb, all the adjustable arms in the world for it are cheap and easy to get. Same with the struts. The subframes themselves are cheap to get. I guess low cost and aftermarket support drew me towards it. I'm a drifter, so for me its good enough, and easy to get.
