i just realised that you have the adaptors, so no matter what, you're wheels are gunna stick out 1" all around. that means, you better stick with the highest number positive offset, or you'll definately rub on the fenders. rubbing on the strut isn't going to be much of an issue if you're using the spacer/adaptors. i have been researching this, because i too am going to run spacers, and hope to probably fit 16x7 in there.....either that, or i might go 13x8, and a super wide low pro tire.

You mean more offset will.
I feel like people are confused about the offset thing.
Yes, offset will change if you change the width of the wheels. As you change the width, things to concern are; 1. tire size, 2. will your new tire hit the fender? or 3. will your new wheel hit the strut.
as you go wider, your clearance to your strut decrease and clearance to your fender decrease. So, if someone is barely clearing the fender with +27 offset, then higher offset will bring the tire inward to clear the fender.
If +27 rubs the struts, first of all, usually the wheels will hit the struts before tires will rub the struts. Unless your tires are much wider than suggested width. Well, thats what i've notice with 3 gen and most other cars. I recently purchased a 1st gen, but I'm assuming its similar.
I have a 17x7 wheels I'm thinking about putting on to my 1st gen. so, i could confirm this in next few days.

Rollin' coal and 53mpg!
I'm looking at getting these:
Centerline Mojave's, 15x8"... 4x114.3mm, 5" backspacing.
Centerline Storm... 15x7", 4x114.3mm, +42mm offset
Volk Racing CE28N... bronze... 15x7", 4x114.3mm, +35mm offset
Am I gonna rub on any of these? Keep in mind, I'll be running 205/50-15 Falken Azenis

back from the dead........was wondering if anybody could finish this issue and leave me with a good anwser so i dont mess up and get the wrong rims......
i have 85' GS....and looking at getting the Diamond Racing Pro Race wheels in 15x7....the availiable backspacing is 1"- 4" if im not mistaken......
my goal that i want is to have the wheels just at the lips of the fenders....i have seen a GS with kosei's and they seem to be at just the right stance that im looking for...if i cant get this they also have 15x8 with a backspace in 1"- 5"...
tire wise i want the Yokohama AVS ES100's but any info on a good tire size would also help me...maybe a fat tire thats alittle wider then the rim..i like the look of it and i wont get any curb rash...
thanks

i'm planning on gettin those k1 kosei's they are 15x7 with some 205/50-15 yokos and all this stuff confuses the hell outta me. i've never messed with rims before so i know jack about offsets and crap. I read through this whole thread and i still don't know what any of it is. Guess I'm just simple minded.

Its always a bit of gueswork Rusty but you can work it out yourself, this is my math.
An 8" rim is 8 X 25 MM, or 200MM wide
0 offset is the middle line or 100MM (4") backspacing
+38 is 38MM outside of the middle line, so 100MM plus 38MM. This would be 5.5" backspacing
+17 is 17MM outside of the middle line, so 100MM plus 17MM. This would be 4.75" backspacing.
Clear as mud huh....
7" is 7 X 25 or 175MM

Another thing that should be mentioned is that backspacing depends on wheel width, while offset does not. Offset is totally independant of how wide the wheel is. For example, if you have a rim of 6" wide with 40mm of offset, then you get a wheel that is 8" wide with 40mm offset, the hub backing is still going to be in the same reletive position as the 6" wide rim. This means that if the 6" wide rim has 4" to the inboard lip and 2" to the outboard lip, then the 8" wide rim will have 5" to the inboard lip and 3" to the outboard lip.
Using the same situation, a 6" wide rim with 4" of backspacing will have 2" from the hub to the outboard lip and 4" to the inboard lip. An 8" wide rim with 4" backspacing will have 4" to the outboard lip and 4" to the inboard lip.
Hopefully that makes at least a little sense. To summarize though, a wheel measured with offset will have the same basic proportions as a rim of any width with the same offset. A rim measured using backspacing will have the same dimention to the inboard lip, but varying dimensions to the outboard lip. IMO, offset is a MUCH more accurate way of measuring a rim, and once you get your head around the numbers, is much easier to figure out what offset you need on your new rims to position it right.

Nope, it seems the Kosie's have been discontinued. This really sucks because there are almost literally NO new wheels made for our bolt pattern anymore. At least wheels that are actually affordable.
