Whenever I hear someone say "bloody *****/******" it always makes me think of those horns that do stupid songs, only instead of a song it says "Bloody ******". I don't know why, but I think it would be hilarious.

And I say definitely stay with the rotary. It doesn't take much power at all to get these cars moving fast, so get your car running and then rebuild with a street port when the time comes to rebuild. Beyond tons amount easier than swapping engines.

Hey, you know I'm into the rotary thing ( ported 13B in a widebody ), but just for the sake of wondering, I bet the I5 ( inline 5 cylinder ) 3500cc Colorado/Canyon engine that replaced the V6 S10's would relly perform well in an FB. They're over 220 horsepower and sound kinda mean stock. And get over 20 mpg on a midsize crewcab, too. Hmmm...

myself and forum member dufourmike decided to take openshot under our wings, and help him out a little. he was informed by his dad that his car wasn't flooded, it just needs a carburetor rebuild. we arranged a time to go and actually meet him and have a look at his car. this is what we found out

the car has really bad cancer in the bins. there is a hole big enough to stick your head through from the rear wheel well, right into the storage bin. its REALLLY BAD.

the car does have some other rust issues on the body, but his dad knows how to do bodywork, and plans on sandblasting the car, and fixing the body....so hopefully that goes well.

we pulled the plugs, and to our surprise (sarcasm), they were drenched with fuel. we explained to him and his dad that rotaries do not un-flood by themselves. if it doesnt' start, and you crank and crank, then it will be flooded. that is a guarantee. anyways, we had openshot crank the engine with the plugs out, and out came tons of gas, and 6 nice pulses, which i couldn't believe since the car has sat for 10 years. needles to say, i was more exited than openshot that his engine was in fact in good shape. i had to keep asking him...aren't you happy? your engine is good!!! he didn't show much interest.

we got to talking, and here's the bottom line with openshot's intentions with his car. in no way am i dissing him at all, he is a good kid that just needs some direction, and for people to accept him for who he is. anyways.....i proceeded to tell openshot about my car, and that how after investing only 2500 i will have a really cool car, with bodykit, stereo, nice rims, etc (to get his attention), and to let him know that it really won't take much to make his car "cool". then the big question...."damien, (openshot), if you had 2500 bucks, what would you do with it? and he replied. "get a new paintball gun....a really cool one because that's my hobby"...........anyways, at that point, i came to realise that openshot just doesn't have the "drive" to actually make his car his first priority, and get anything done to it. i think its more his dad's idea for him to get a car, which openshot doesnt' really REALLY want.

anyways openshot, i just want to say that if you decide to give up your other hobby, so you can have some cash to actually fix your car, that i will be there to help you along the way, but its going to take alot of dedication from you. unless you can make enough money to support both hobby's, then you will have to pick one. i know when i was 15, and i wanted to be "cool", a car was the number one thing that would get me all the "coolness" that i wanted....not to mention all the girlies that can't resist a teenager with a sports car. lol

like i said before, openshot.....you have to make the first step to fixing your car....and that is to fix the brakeline. i don't wanna see any more dumb posts by you, unless its about how to fix the brakeline. if you can just focus on one thing at a time, i will help you out, and direct you along the way. but if you see past this, and let me down, i won't have anything to do with helping you out. so i hope you know what to do. FIRST THINGS FIRST

if you wanna ask about bodykits, and stereos, and neon lights that light up when you hit the brakes, then go to some honda forum, and you will definately fit right in.

i hope i don't seem rude here, i am just trying to point you in the right direction, and show you how to gain respect from some of these "mean jerks" here in the forum. that's all

ps: thanks for the suggestion.

pps: i posted this so i can learn what motors are beter.
Well I guess I get to add a 'Bloody ****' placque on the wall next the 'Genius' and 'Legend' that I have been called on this forum.

What I posted was not meant as a personal attack. If you feel like **** from what I posted, then you missed the whole point of what I was saying. While this is an automotuive tech forum, and I participate in that extensively, I also give out life observations at times. It comes with age, I have kids 10 years older than you, so I tend to give fatherly advice at times.

My pointing out your paint color thread and the picture was an attempt to give you a heads up that you are leaving yourself wide open for some of the personal attacks you have recieved. It was in no way meant as an attack, it was life advice and a reality check. I'm sorry that your feelings are hurt, but they are your feelings and you are responsible for them. I didn't make you feel like ****, you chose to feel that way. You could have interpreted what I posted in another manner and found humor in what I said. I have no control over that, only you do.

As an example, I could be really angry about you calling me a bloody **** and telling me to **** off, I'm not. I find the term bloody **** and ****** funny, but maybe that's from watching too much BBC, and I have matured enough that I don't take everything personally, even when it was meant to be.

Making mistakes is part of growing up. We often learn more from making mistakes than doing everything right the first time. If you painted your car and were unhappy with the color, made a mistake, then you would most likely choose another color the next time. If you painted your car, and liked the color, but everyone made fun of it, so what. It's your car, have the maturity to accept your decisions and live with them and not feel like **** because someone else doesn't like it. The merit of a man is of best judged by his independence in thought and deed, not by his being another one of the sheep.

Two final points.

If I had wanted to be mean and attack you personally, I would have said panties, not shorts.

What you did to save a fellow classmate was a noble and couragous deed. I commend you for the maturity and caring it took to do that.

openshot, i just read what you wrote about helping your friend out at school. i agree with trochoid was very courageous. that was exactly the right thing to do, to tell a teacher, and make friends with the kid. one of the biggest things i hate about teenage life, is the fact that kids can be very nasty towards each other. all in all, they're just trying to fit in, and often have no idea the harm they are making emotionally to the victim, and it is sad......you are right, and i don't doubt for a second that your friend may have really tried to kill himself before school. keep doing things like that, and you can guarantee yourself that you will make some very good "real" friends that will last a lifetime.

It's good to see someone trying to offer a helping hand, all i've seen since his first post was everyone giving him ****, he asks simple questions, and never really gets an answer. From what I have read, he's a good kid just needs some guiding in the the right direction with his car.

Openshot:
Just as Nick said, you are going to have to devote yourself to your car, that's how you end up with a good looking and nice running one. If you really want your car to be nice, you are going to have to get your hands dirty and work on it, help your father out and watch what he is doing to learn the trade. You should be pretty thrilled that your engine isn't completely toast, who knows how long is left in it, but you should be thrilled none the less.

As for your original question in this post, I personally think you should stick with the rotary engine, it's non-conventenial and people get weird looks on their face when you say "Hey, my car doesn't have pistons." The point in an RX7 is to be non-conventential, in all actuality of the case. It's a light car, It's a sports car. There are many other makes and models that replicate it with a piston engine, but to be able to say "I don't have pistons" is kind of fun, I enjoy it and I tend to let everyone around me know.

Good luck with the car, and keep your head on straight and don't let the **** talkers get to you.

That's an interesting idea.

I've always thought if I where savy enough, I'd attempt to put a turbo'd hyabusa engine in a gutted FB. Well over 200hp while still being 1300cc??????

I'd have no idea how to go about doing it, but a sequential shifter and 14,000 rpm should be enough motivation for someone

I almost posted a response which I new I might regret later. Some of the questions seemed out of wack, priorities all wrong, like considering an engine replacement when the chassis is not up to par (based on bin rust observations). I figured if I can't say something constructive, don't say anything at all. I'm glad I did hold back. (But I must admit that I enjoyed reading posts by others that did not!)

I do want to say that I am amazed at the great patience and advice some members have shown this youngster. Even a personal visit by experienced rotary guys! Priceless!
Good work men.

hey i always aim to please

dufourmike is the one who should get all the attention...he did single handedly remove my engine from my car with only a crappy tool set, and a 2x4 with a nylon strap....i couldn't even hold up my end, and he did it himself...lol.

but ya i remember when i was 15 and got my first rx7. if only i knew of this forum (was it even around 12 yrs ago?), or had someone with experience take me under their wing.

the biggest problem with openshot is that his priorities are all wrong. forget engine transplants, and hood scoops, what he really wants to spend his money on is paintball gear. so until he gets over that "phase", i don't think his car is going to get ANY attention unless his dad does it for him. prove me wrong damien and i will have tons of respect for you.

WOW Damien you are learning, and i can see from this post, that all you need is direction. me and mike will be there to tell you what to get first, and stuff like that. i think first off, you should focus on 3 things. get the carb rebuild kit from victoria british, fix your brake line, and try and fill in the holes in the storage bins. i have to be honest, when i saw how bad the bin rust was, i basically considered the car to be a parts car. BUT since your dad can do bodywork, it may be worth fixing after all. once you do those things, your car will be that much more ready for the road.....THEN AND ONLY THEN will we begin to discuss some cool stuff for the car. the first thing I would personally do, is get a header (exhaust part), and a custom made exhaust. that will free up power, and it will sound WAY COOL!

oh, before i forget Damien. i should have said there are 4 things that need immediate attention. the fourth thing is your "idler arm". remember how your steering wheel has so much play and feels weird? taht's your idler arm. i saw it moving like crazy when your dad was moving the tire back and forth. you can get the "idler arm" from victoria british when you get your carb kit. 2 cheap parts that you should get now, and they will make your car come a long way

okay i forgot to tell all the forum members about the scooter openshot.....okay

openshot has basically designed a scooter that should make the lowriders cream their pants when they see it. this thing is about 12 feet long, and could probably hold 12 people. lol its like the caddy limo in the scooter world. lol....just gotta strengthen it up there buddy....but oh yes...damien is definatley creative and cool

and one more thing openshot. you will need new spark plugs, and if you check the for sale section, someone is selling them for like 17 bucks, so i'd grab them up ASAP that is a great deal. otherwise they are gunna cost you like 50 bucks from mazda just so you know.

so there's lots of stuff to get you started on your car. maybe dufourmike and myself will have to come over and check the progress soon. word up keep it real in da field. peace
