Damn, having only owned the '80 I only have the yearly model differences down on paper somewhere. I was thinking about the change on the lower lip to vertical slats on each side, but thinking harder I beleive that change was between 83 and 84.

That picture was taken this month. Why not just go look at the car again, and check out what the badge on back says?
But, I'm with these guys. I'd say its an 84-85 GS model.
Are those things on the roof, straps, to wear the car as a backpack?

That's definately an aftermarket moonroof. The stock glass one doesn't have a thick rubber gasket showing around it as this one does. That, the black mirrors, and the dash shape, narrow the car down to a non-sunroof Series 3 ('84-'85), therefore a US spec S or GS as Mike and Alec have said. The Canadian version would have headlight washer 'horns' on the front bumper, and that dash was only available in Canada and the US.

All I could tell was that is was an 84/85 (No badge on the B pillar... 83 and before had them there. Didn't know about the washer nozzles or that you could tell the dash from this angle.) and that is was NOT a GSL-SE (Wheels.)
Damn... I need more RX-7 Trivia.

84/85 GS. The base model would have had manual side mirrors. You won't know if it's an 84 or 85 without the VIN as mecanically, 84 and 85 cars were identical.
Only GSLs had the badge on the b-pillar.

Have you ever SEEN a GSL without a sunroof? According to the 84 and 85 sales brochures, the sunroof was standard equiptment on the GSL, it didn't come without.
